When I first arrived at the RC Willey last week and saw the 64F8500 for the first time, there was a black standard Samsung remote in front of the TV. I picked it up and was able to access the Menu and all the Menu controls on the F8500 with the remote. While playing around with the F8500 another sales guy was looking for the remote that I was using because he had a customer who wanted a demo on another Samsung TV and needed the remote I was using. I gave him the remote I was using and my sales guy went in the back of the store to look for the remote that came with the F8500. I got tired of waiting for my sales guy so I went around and picked up another random Samsung TV remote and again, had no problem accessing the Menu and all Menu functions on the F8500. I never tried using any other keys on the remote except the Menu and related keys to navigate through the Menu settings. My sales guy finally returned with the super duper remote that comes with the F8500. He told me their remotes "disappear" from their store on a regular basis. I suggested to him that he keep the F8500 remote off the sales floor since the other Samsung TV remotes were working with the F8500. I never used the remote that came with the F8500. I saw it, looked kinda small, and did not look like any remote I had ever seen that came as standard equipment out of the box for a TV.
BTW, I too am very happy to read about Robert Zohn's review of the F8500. I really respect his knowlledge and judgement in his ability to review TVs and on what he saw while viewing the F8500. I am sure he viewed the F8500 in a viewing enviornment that is much closer to what most of us have rather then what I had to deal with both times at RC Willey. I do plan on going back to RC Willey this weekend to get answers to the questions some of you have asked for. I also want to play around with some settings that I now have. Also, my local Magnolia is expecting at least two or three different sizes of the F8500 to arrive at the end of this week too. I am looking forward to seeing the F8500 next to the VT50.
