If you keep an eye on it you might be able to grab one at $630 still.

Bumblefeet, that is definitely defective. Mine is silent. I would guess it is a ballast but I really don't know.

I have all the gear but it's reported that the CMS controls are very rough and the 6510 is not able to be finely tuned.

I'm sure at this price point it's very acceptable however.

btw CONGRATS ON ALL WHO BOUGHT FROM NEWEGG, remember to sign up for shoprunner and get free 2 day shipping on top of that good deal.

However, after searching around for some additional information on this projector (I was planning on the BenQ 1070 before this) I saw something that I'm quite concerned by - the 3d is supposed to just be at 96hz refresh, not the 120hz that seems standard. My main reason for picking this up is for 3d as I have an existing non-3d projector that works just fine. Anyone with this projector who uses it mainly for 3d that can compare it to another 3d projector running at 120 hz refresh? If it really does show up noticible flicker I will cancel and pay the extra $200 for the Acer. Thanks!

I've watched 5-6 3d movies on this. I don't see any flicker (even in bright movies like Happy Feet 2), but my eyes do feel strained during and after the movie for a while. But, I thought this strain is common for all active 3d technology irrespective of the refresh rate. Isn't it ?

my order was cancelled by newegg, and now it's sold-out. Could it be that I'm ordering outside of US? I'm using a third party address courier service and Singapore issued credit card.

PS. I cancelled my discounted amazon order for this, and the newegg has a better discount but happened to be an unsuccessful order & is now out of stock. Just my luck. hahaha

and yeah this projector sounds like it's about to take off in eco mode.

Well I wanted to be absolutely sure and just audio recorded my both acers to make sure I'm not crazy. The buzzing sound I mentioned on my H6510BD is really intrusive and once the image shuts down but it's still cooling off (the 2 min shutdown) the noise is gone but the fan keeps blowing. I believe the buzzing is coming from near the power outlet so this has convinced me it's defective and not a fan issue.

My older acer only makes air sound that gets fuller when you transition from eco to normal.

I just stuck my head up to mine and it does make a little buzzing noise. Gets drowned out by my fish tank, guess I'm not a good judge of projector noise because of this. It's also on a 10-foot ceiling so I can't hear the buzzing sitting down even with the fish tank off.

The Acer H6510BD has Acer's Soap Opera effect called AcuMotion right? it is a feature in the options. This will decide if i buy it.

I don't believe the h6510bd supports any kind of frame interpolation. It does have a film mode though.

Edit: Look below linzki shows that it does support acumotion.

Is the 9500 Acer better? Seems like this unit has more than the more expensive model. The max res is 1920x1200. the 9500 is 1600x1200.

acer 6510bd has acumotion's blur control.

http://www.acer.no/ac/no/NO/content/model-features/MR.JFZ11.001

Can't see soap opera effect thou.

I'm so used to the picture now, but i remember the first time i thought the picture was clearer on fast moving scene's compared to my earlier PJ acer h5360.
Maybe SOE is just subtle and that can be good because the better the SOE the more it adds unwanted artefact's especially around moving objects.

If you have your videos in your pc and you want soap opera effect you should try "Smooth Video Project": http://www.svp-team.com/wiki/Download

I watched a Netflix streaming movie on my PS3 for the first time, and every so often, maybe 5 to 10 min intervals, the video signal would be lost, the screen flash bright static for a second, then return. A couple of times the Acer lost the video connection altogether, which took a few seconds to correct. No problems with my Verizon Fios, haven't tried a dvd. The PS3 gui is stable (and looks great!). My setup goes PS3 > HDMI > Monoprice 1x4 switch > Monoprice 34' HDMI to DVI cable > Monoprice DVI to HDMI adapter > 3' HDMI cable > Acer.

Never had this problem with my Barco 808 (which was modified for 1080p), tho the DVI went straight in, no adapter.

Thanks for suggestions on cable as problem. I am going to replace cable with straight HDMI, but had this stuff in place from the Barco.

One other issue, tho, is that this is only on Netflix streaming, not on DVD or on other material streamed from the PS3. I read somewhere that Netflix streaming changes its resolution frequently to maintain the stream, and that some equipment is particularly sensitive to this. Is that the case with the Acer? And does anyone else have this particular problem with Netflix?

The 9500 has some issues, check out the h9500bd thread to see them.

That Acer webiste is another region. I dont think it has AcuMotion. Do you own this unit? Has anybody who owns this Acer H6510BD seen this feature in the settings/menu? I am Curious how this would look on PC games forced at 30hz ... maybe better Performance and less stutter? Who HERE has the Acer H6510BD? Did Acer add AcuMotion with a frimware update? I know they added color and control options for other models of projectors that had "issues". thanks

Maybe this site works for you:

http://biffle.com/p/acer-h6510bd-projector/
it states following: " Action sequences are thrilling at an authentic 24p frame rate and with AcuMotion's blur control."

Yet, that's word for word same as in that first link i put up here. But in that first link it has a footnote: "Specifications vary depending on model".

I'd like to know too if this really has acumotion blur control and if it should be in menu for user to adjust.

Yes i own acer h6510bd. No acumotion option in settings/menu. Haven't seen any firmware update for this pj yet.

For acer h9500bd newegg.com tells:
"AcuMotion is an Acer technology that improves picture clarity in fast- moving scenes and reduces motion blur. Fast-moving video objects have motion blur and flicker. The fewer picture frames used on standard video and film simply cannot show smooth, fast motion. AcuMotion generates new frames and inserts them in between the original frames, creating smoother motion with less blur."

But not for acer h6510bd.

It looks like this doesn't have that option after all...even if my first reaction was that picture was clearer on fast moving scenes. I have to ask this from acer directly...
AcuMotion doesnt mater. you can add Frame interpolation with hacking a PVR unit and using SVP Filter in MPC. Your model has a 19ms input lag. AND your unit has the DC3 "Dark Chip 3" the 10000:01 Contrast ratio sounds impressive but the REAL factor is the high end DC3 tech added. Tell me does this PJ have great black levels when the unit is calibrated?

This PJ has been MIA for the past couple of days, both amazon and newegg don't have it. Any insider news on as to when they will re-stock?
or better yet any alternative pj suggestions for below 800usd or should i just wait? smile.gif

There's the hd20 which is considerably worse. Worse blacks, contrast, brightness, sharpness.

There's the pro8200 which is probably worse also but I haven't seen this one.

I would suggest either waiting or getting a more expensive projector.
U mean W1070?
Thanks for the suggestions.
Yes I'm looking at benq w1070 - but i'm already stretched-out at 800usd (still have to consider shipping cost).
Pro8200 is tempting, but might as well wait for H6510bd.

I received the projector a few days back but have not been able to install it yet since the mounting plate is so different from my existing projector mount I'll have to order a new one. That said, I did try to get the projector sampled the other evening but could not get the 3d to activate using my PS3 - the PS3 would not recognize the Acer 6510Bd as being 3d capable. Frustrating, I'll have to spend more time testing it out this weekend, I suspect the problem lies in l the 2 splitters I have my equipment going into prior to outputting to my Onkyo receiver.

Regarding eye strain and this projector in 3d:

I've been using nVidia 3d vision at 120 hz refresh (Acer monitor) for years and never experience eye strain so that doesn't bode too well for this projector. Still, I'll at least give it a shot and hope the eye strain isn't that bad...if it is (or mainly if the wife can't tolerate it) then I'm sure I can unload the projector for close to the super deal I picked it up for ($630).

So I switched to high speed redmere cables, which solved most of my display problems. But here is a new one. When using my Verizon Fios, everytime I switch from 2D to 3D or back, I have to power off and back on the Monoprice 1x4 switch box. I tried the Auvio box and got the same result. It's not really awful, because both boxes give a perfect picture in either mode and it only takes a couple of seconds. Probably the hdcp handshake gets confused. But does anyone know a switch box that doesn't have this problem? If notmy decision criteria are the Monoprice's sturdy build versus the Auvio's dimmer leds.
Good to hear that a true HDMI cable fixed your issues.

I would theorize that the switch gives you 1 bite at the apple when you first power it up to grab and lock a signal. Any subsequent changes in the signal don't initiate another hardware handshake. I'd want to eliminate other issues:

1) Can you hook the projector directly to the Verizon Fios? Does it switch correctly between 2D and 3D when you do?
2) If you hook the switch up to another output (such as an HDTV or monitor), does it still not function correctly?

When hooked directly, there is no problem. I don't think I have a monitor that will do 3D, so that is hard to try.

Also found that I can overcome the problem by manually switching the Acer 3D mode on and off, instead of powering off the Monoprice. I am beginning to think the problem cannot be solved with automatic 2D/3D switching, that the switch box interferes with the communications between devices and the Acer.

I'm not sure who you are talking to but I'll bite.

The extra cost of passive will never be offset by the price of glasses(at least when dealing with projectors). Also I thought the passive systems had issues with noise?

So, did anyone figure out how to adjust picture settings in 3d mode?
I received my projector about 2 weeks ago and was able to hook it up for a temp test last weekend (Basement finish is underway and Framing is complete).

Equipment:
Elite Screens electric100H
H6510BD
Playstation 3
Sony 5.1 Surround (via Optical Cable from PS3)
Roku

I for one am very pleased. I did notice some eye strain after watching AVATAR in 3D but that is one long movie so we shall see if that continues. I didn't notice it as much with Promethius in 3D.

Regardless of the mentions of limited options for tweaking the image, for the total price of $631 including .99 cent shipping from New Egg. This projector cannot be beat.

In my house 3D wont be our primary viewing as most movies will be via Playon, Netflix HD Streamed or Blu Ray. We will watch the occasional 3D movie like Avengers or Jurassic Park and I am sure it will be used when the kids have friends over.

3D gaming was fun for the kids, another novelty that will be part time use.

Forgetting the 3D option, this projector is a great addition to a family media room or theater. I know we are going to enjoy it

Couple of comments regarding things I have read in forums. I have not noticed any Flicker during 3D use, eye strain perhaps a little. Also the noise or whining that some people have mentioned I have none of. The only thing I can hear is the sound of air from the fan. Even that is not too loud and in eco mode it is very quiet.

And that is my 2 cents.. smile.gif

Did you notice any rainbow effect? thanks
