Hey great thread guys.
So I purchased one of these projectors.
I just bought a house with a large theater room (large to me) - its about 22 feet by 15 feet, all prewired for 7.1 and am just putting in my speakers this weekend (love those so far). The screen size is 135" diagonal.
Although I consider myself a bit of a geek (most people would really say nerd - haha), I have never done a lot with home theater - always had too small of a home to worry about it. So take everything I say through a newbie perspective. I am also a bit of a money freek and don't like bargains where quality is good, doesn't have to be perfect. Perfect is too often the enemy of the good in my mind, we research things to death and often waste time and money on stuff we don't need.
I am learning a lot about home theaters. I will say from my amateur perspective this projector looks amazing, I am blown away. So far I watched a few different HD movies just off dish network on a wall (don't even have a screen yet) and I would say it was amazing. Haven't watched BluRay yet, but did test the PS3 - I played Togun demo and had to stop as it was too much visual overload (all my life have fantasized about this kind of thing only to get car sick?) - But seriously I loved the picture and being engulfed in the action, can't wait to play some madden.
I have just bought some 3D glasses to go with it, hope they work (they seem like a good price and are well reviewed - but wasn't sure if these were the right spec)??...
I would say blacks look deep and not noticed any flickering, ghosts or anything of that nature. I don't understand why someone would pay 3K-5K or whatever for a projector, don't see the point, I guess their must be visual connoisseurs (videophiles?) out there, for me I would rather have this projector that seems amazing and go on a cruise for the same money.
Same thing on the speakers - I bought these....
(this is the center example). Absolutely amazing to me, really deep/rich sounds, really awesome even at just 5.1 (I don't have a 7.1 amp yet). Sounds just like a movie theater to me. I know audiophiles would berate me for buying lower cost speakers - but I don't get it, why spend thousands when these are more than amazing already???
Okay sorry for the tangent, the only thing I don't like on this projector is the fan noise, while it's not super loud it definitely is very noticeable when there is not noise from the movie (which isn't often). If a quieter fan is all you get by spending many thousands of extra dollars then I seriously question the value of that. But any tips to cut out the fan noise might be nice.
If you are budget minded like me, want a nice picture, like 3D (not tested yet), 1080P, etc. then buy this projector.
Well okay I do have 3 questions:
1) Any advice on the glasses, are these ones the right kind of thing for playing games and watching blue ray 3d movies?
2) Also I bought a mount and it sucks, had to manually adjust it with a bracket of my own to straighten the image, any good suggestions on mounts?
3) Back to the fan noise, any suggestions on the fan noise - is there something you can put underneath to diminish it, was thinking of building or buying some kind of encasement box that sits under and around but allowing for plenty of airspace and something nice looking.
