I also changed the gamma all around (2.6-1.8) and maybe it's just me, but I don't see this set ever coming close to the brightness of a LED, as some have said. It seemed just as bright as the GT series from 2012 (which was also there) The filter does a good job of reflecting light, and the screen was crisp and clear to me, much better than last years models. I was really looking forward to this set blowing me away and I guess I'm disappointed. My question to you all, is it the set being up so high and running the bestbuy video demo what's affecting my perception? My dilemma is I want to buy the 60" model and can't just get it home and try it out and then take it back... So I'm anxious to hear everyone's opinions on my statements....

You have to realize that if you were to take those led tvs and put them in your home, in store mode, it would fry your eyeballs. I just got back from best buy myself, I can see what your saying, but it's pretty bright compared to other plasm as I have seen displayed, the picture quality looks amazing, and I was shocked how sharp the picture is. I will be heading back tomm to purchase.

No offense, but it sounds like you might not know what you're doing.

I agree with everyone else though, it's almost futile to test a TV in a store environment.

What a combo that would be :P

Spectre88, I do take offense and instead of telling me I don't know what I'm doing how about offering some constructive criticism and give some suggestions, or is that just for people who "know what they are doing".....

Does anyone know when the 60" version will be available? I was at BB today and asked them but they were clueless

Well you wouldn't use high brightness or anything lower than 2.4 gamma, hence the statement.

I'm sorry you were offended. I thought "no offense" covered that.

Thanks guys smile.gif I appreciate the responses from everyone. Making a 1400-1600 decision is a big decision and I want to have the best opinions on the subject.

Yeah it can be stressful, how bright is the room in question ?
Any chance any owners could post some pictures to show off its Black levels in a dark room? Eg dark Knight, the descent.

Cheers

Honestly, you're over thinking it. I have a 4 year old Samsung plasma that I watch with all the lights on regularly. Until I started reading this thread, the idea of it not being bright enough never crossed my mind. If you sit it next to a retina burning showroom LED, yes it'll look dim, but in a real world scenario that difference is pointless.

I know this is hard, but you have to take a leap of faith, there is a reason that cnet had Panny plasmas as 3 of the top 4 tvs last year. If you have a bright room, with light shining on the tv, you may be better of with led, if you just have an average tv room, you will most likely be ecstatic. Buy from amazon, or best buy, where you have the return guarantee. Led tvs to me are way to expensive to get a comparable picture to a good plasma.

I preordered a p60st60 from the Panasonic website (EPP discount) and after checkout was notified that it should ship April 22nd.

While I somewhat agree with the LED comment, there's a lot of people that were satisfied with the 2012 models in bright rooms. I would be more concerned that he had to turn the panel to high and switch through all the gammas trying to get it bright enough. Although, I don't know if he was trying to get it bright enough to his personal preference or if he was just trying to match the LCD brightness.

^Fool's errand and pointless (trying to match LCD brightness), unless you're setting up the TV in a greenhouse, I suppose.

Yeah, but I have never been in a home that is bright as the inside of best buy. When I was there , it looked plenty bright, was it as bright as the led tvs surrounding it that we're displayed in full max torch mode, no, but whey osu look at the colors and images, the led image looks washed out compared to the st60.

St60 is just like meh but I have a full surround

That's a shame. Looks like I'll be sticking with ST50

I also have surround but I can't always be bothered firing it up (and my wife certainly never does).

Uhg, that's the worst news I've heard all day. Hopefully that was just an estimate, like when UPS says your package will arrive in 5 days and comes in 3.

any pics?

So how is bluray on the 60 compared to the 50?

I thought bluray on the 50 models was so stunning that I'm not sure how much better they could have got.

Really pq is so good I really don't care so much. But the sound was fantastic for a panel on the st50 no matter what no one says. I wouldn't stick with a 50 because of sq

Well in your earlier post you said you went out to the local BestBuy and looked at the 60ST50, which is last year's 60 inch ST50 series (TC-P60ST50) and that's causing confusion. You flip-flopped the 50 and 60 in the model number. You might want to go back and edit your post wink.gif
