I'm not a Panasonic owner. If someone doesn't come up with settings that correct your Aunt's problem, be sure to return it before the return period is over. I think that's two weeks from the date of purchase.

Anyone who tries to help you will need to know what you're watching, what devices you are using, how they are connected, and what mode you are using.

There are sources for complete settings that they can direct you too.

It's very dangerous to do a sales pitch on a relative. If this goes bad, I hope you have a loving Aunt. wink.gif

My first question is what settings and calibrations should I use for watching sports(basketball, football, hockey) and regular cable tv? I know very little, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, welcome to AVS ! You're gonna love this display! cool.gif

You can do the break-in procedure outlined in the "2013 settings thread" located at the link below, but you don't have too. If you don't do it, just be careful with at least the first 100 hours of viewing - watch full screen 16x9 content, avoid news channels with scrollers, too many sports games with the score always displayed.. but don't worry about it too much after the initial period (100-200 hours or so).

As for settings, you can try the settings posted by D-Nice in the same thread I posted above. You can also check out the CNET website review of the ST60, they also posted settings.

Regarding your aunts problem - I'm pretty sure you need to go into the picture menu and turn CATS to OFF.. try that see if it works.

Be sure CATS is off and make sure Power Saving under the Eco menu is Standard. Then you should have much less brightness fluctuations. Also, try using Cinema mode instead of the others.

Just got the call TV coming today. I want to follow D-nice setup to a T.
I plan on using the slides for the first 100 hours.
I have a couple of questions.
When I turn it on and put in the memory stick does it just start playing?
Do I turn CATS off?
Anything else I should do, besides rereading D-Nices' thread

Thanks.
And I can't wait to see this thing.

Put the USB in the tv, then hit the USB button on the TV remote. It will start up.. As for settings, follow what D-Nice says in post #1 of the 2013 settings thread (and yes, CATS should be Off). It's all in post #1, not hard to follow at all..

Isn't the Samsung competitor to the st60 the f5500 line?

What the ST60 line is this year is the top candidate for the best bang for the buck.

So yeah we compare the ST60 to the 8500 for sure. The 5500 is not quite on par. ST60 is simply amazing value if you can look past the slowprocessor , input lag and mediocre apps.

Yeah.. ST60 is the way to go this year cool.gif

Even the CNET review of the VT60 says that its PQ is better than the ST, but for the price difference, the ST is a much better deal biggrin.gif

Im about to order the Disney WOW blu ray off amazon and was wanting to add a good cheap universal remote. I remember reading someone had the sony universal remote and i was wondering if thats a good remote that would work with the ST60. I saw a couple on Amazone the Sony RMVLZ620 for about 18 bucks and the Sony RMVZ320 for about 10 bucks. Does anyone have these remotes and how do they work with the ST60. Oh and BTW Im still in love with my 50" St60 Best TV i have ever owned.

I am finding the more hours I put on the TV the more IR I am getting. Most of clears up pretty quick but some has hung around for days. In the first 100 hours I did not notice anything. Now more and more things can be seen from menu items and such. Fox Sports logo has hung around for a few days. I have about 200 hours on my panel currently.

BB is currently out of stock of the 60ST60 so would need to wait to get another one to see if it is something with my panel. I was offered a Samsung LED floor model 60es7500 for $1,300 or a NIB es7100 for $1,100. I am seriously considering the 7500 but keep looking at those blacks on the ST60 and then changing my mind. But then I see the Fox Sports logo shining through other shows and then I go back to the LED mind.

This has seriously been torture buying a TV! My wife is ready to divorce me. I have said this was the last TV for the last 8 TV's I have tried in my house.

+1 biggrin.gif

Would have been nice to see the ST in the shootout, but like you said it's not happening unfortunately.. In a way I can see why, the VT and ZT are already in, so that would make the shootout too Panasonic heavy I would think..

How long did you watch Fox Sports? Can you take a picture of the logo burn in?

Maybe about 1 1/2 - 2 hours as most. Then watched other stuff all night and it was still there after that.

Here are some pics. Hard to capture on a camera because of the refreshing of the TV. It is in the upper right corner. I have also had the word menu from the Panasonic menu stay on the TV for about 2 days before dissapearing.

run pixel flipper while you sleep.

I have done that. First for 4 hours, didn't work. Then ran it another 8 over night and it finally dissapeared. That is of course until I watched the channel again. I am not going to run my TV everynight to get rid of IR. That is to much trouble for a TV.

I have not seen any other stations leave their mark yet but like I said, the menu's and stuff like that do leave retention as well. Some clear up instantly and others take a while.

Yeah, I have the disc and yes if I run it for 24 hours it will clean my screen but do I really want to do this everytime I watch a certain channel?

Nope, for sure, not really convenient.. But running it on a regular basis based on your viewing patterns might help.

Also wanted to point out again for others here that it's the pixel flipper on the DISNEY WOW BD that's effective at removing persistent IR, and not the one that comes on the tv..

I'm going out of town this weekend and would like to leave my TV running D-Nice's slides while I'm gone.

Is there any significant problems this would create, or is it OK to leave on the entire weekend?

Until I got my ST60, here is a picture of a friend of my ST60 "Nicolas" (HDfever) :

Very good Piqué / Sharpness ... wink.gif

It is fine. Just make sure the slides are scrolling before you leave and no eco settings are on that will shut off your TV or anything like that.

And make sure not to leave the remote where a kitty kat can step on it and stop the slides : )

The only problem I could see on your particular set, is that it will probably display some really horrible material & advise you to turn away. Geaux Tigers biggrin.gif

Nah bro, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. As long as you come home & it's still chugging away.

P.S. I'm going to add an avatar just for you tongue.gif

Cnet left some sets they were preparing for to calibrate running overnight, and they came in the next day to find that some glitch had caused the sets to pause, and an image was badly burned into one of them. They were never able to erase it entirely. Why take the risk!
