Exactly no ill intent at all, just passing on some knowledge to those less experienced.

No need to be a smartass. He May have felt a little attacked but he diden't say anything that warranted this kind of response.

Perhaps you are right, and I should have just called him "a smartass"!biggrin.gif: That would have met with your approval.

I would have saved like I did for you when 2 other people responded in a clam manor letting him know no ill intent was meant towards him and you still had to come out of the woodwork to re-state what has already been said in a fashion that would only stir the pot.

"a clam manor". Those lucky b@stards. How can they afford it? I know it was just a typo because you were not responding in a calm manner. Peace.smile.gif

This just has so many responses set up for it, but they're probably all best left unsaid. smile.gif

I think there is validity in my theory though, tuffluck. The only real issue here is the control. In other words, are you able to create slides exactly as needed, and for how long is this to be attempted? Honestly, if you already have burn-in or whatever, it seems to be a "What do you have to lose?" scenario. Unless it's not very obvious during most content, I don't know why we might as well not test it.

Then again, we should probably open up the floor for discussion in the Master Burn-In/IR Thread and see if people have tried such counter attempts to uneven wear. It only makes sense to me, but I don't want to assume that I know exactly what's going on inside a plasma display panel.

Guys I've ruled out the st60 cuz I'm a decent gamer but my question is would you go with the S60 or last years ST50? Both in 60 inch but a 300$ difference...just curious looking for help here since no one has really answered this is other rooms. Thank you! Just curious if even the low end s60 is a better
Choice over the st50

LOL can't believe I missed that.

Anyways I thought that was quite calm? Hmm, guess I don't know myself these days.

Give the ST60 a try before you rule it out. Anyone who says its unplayable is over exaggerating IMO

I think in a lot of cases the "male genitalia measuring" factor comes into play and people want the best set they can get for whatever the intended purpose. Better picture and Lower input lag numbers = bigger genitalia to some.

I am probably the biggest whiner when it comes to Input lag or on my computer a frame rate drop and I play a lot of Call Of Duty and Forza on my Xbox and I can tell you that going from my Samsung Plasma, to my Sharp LED and now to my Panasonic all in a short time frame that there is not noticeable difference. The numbers may tell a different story but I'd be hard pressed that anyone who says they can actually pick up on it is telling the truth..

Call me crazy but I have had quite a few friends check it out and they notice absolutely no difference playing at my house than they do going home on their LCD tv's computer monitors etc.

Thanks how do I auto hide everything? I know I can do that with the task bar at the bottom, but I was talking about the top bar (File Edit etc)

Any application you have open has two arrows on the top right. If you click that, it will auto hide everything. If you do that in Safari, it will auto hide it as well but leave the address bar. Just right click the address bar and set that to auto hide as well. Regardless, I would really consider setting the screen saver to come up a lot sooner rather than later.

Most gamers that are turned off by the ST60 seem to go the S60 route. Plus with a $300 difference, that almost a free PS4 on November 15th!

I'm not sure what you will watch in the Disney WOW disk. It seems like it's going to take a lot of time to get rid of your IR -- I still think it will go away. wink.gif

If your goal is to clean up the screen so that you can sell it, then keep a variety of programming that's full screen and clean of fixed images running as much as possible.

Many people only see IR when they run exactly the right monochrome slide, and then they have to look carefully to see it. In your case, if I remember correctly, it can be seen in normal viewing material. That's one indication that it built of over time and it was then last baseball game you watched that made it visible. Unfortunately, I don't know enough to be sure that my theory is correct, and I also don't know enough to rule out a defective panel. I do know that one of the respected professional calibrators here at AVS has what he thinks is an abnormal number of Panasonic customers with IR problems.

It's worth contacting Panasonic, but the chances that you'll get any help are remote. I would keep it simple and very calm. You watched 100 games without any problem. Then when you watched the last game you suddenly had a fixed image on your screen that hasn't gone away. I would also ask if your set is broken. I would stick to that and only that. Leave out AVS, IR or burn-in all together. When the entry level person says they can't help you just ask to go to the next level. Keep doing that and you might get a repair under the warranty. That would be a replacement panel.

I've already told him this 2 or 3 times in the S60 thread, he won't listen.

Well, I was going to turn on that pixel flipper...says it helps IR. Not sure it's going to do anything.

Good suggestion on how to handle Panasonic. I just had a heck of a time with a brand new Asus tablet and their CS department. First one broke after 6 months, they repaired and sent it back. It broke again at 11 months, and since warranty was only 12 months I asked for a replacement. Had to twist their arm, but eventually they sent a replacement which had an additional 30 day warranty. On Day 35 the screen broke lol. When I call them now and request another unit, they transfer me until I get hung up on. No one will talk to me. So now I have a paper weight tablet, thanks to spending $400 on it a year ago brand new. At any rate I don't have much luck with electronics it seems, and customer service even less.

Unless the two units had the same ID number your plan wouldn't work. With your luck you would wind up with two defective TVs and one defective tablet. eek.gif

Ha. Why the defective computer?

Btw what is the deal with the TV shutting off after like 10 minutes of the pixel flipper running? The BD Sony S5100 and the TV both shut off immediately after the thing starts??

How useful is the screen wipe function on these TVs?

I'm not sure, but I would think something like this that they would match serial numbers if you return the faulty one.

Just find a way to fry the tv. Find a really big microwave, slide the tv in for a minute and a half or until the popping sound slows down. Return for a new tv.

I know your problem - you were watching the Rangers ----during the time period our Oakland A's were smoking/burning them!
i have had plasma TV's starting long before stores carried them. Had to mail order them. First 42" (not HD) Panny Plasma was $5K. Cable didn't carry HD. We were behind a hill, so couldn't get OTA. Subscribed to Canadian Satellite because they had HD before DirecTV.
Never ha any problems with it, with the next one we bought 8-9 years ago (50"). Screen lasted until electronics died last month. Another 50" Panny plasma we've had for about 5 years. No problem. We do not avoid watching certain things or have gone thru any "conditioning" procedure with the old panels or the ST.

Have watched about 50 A's games - no problem. One thing though - I record them on the DVR and either start watching an hour later or the next morning. I FF (using the 30 second skip function on the Comcast DVR) through the inning changes, pitching changes etc. - so the TV is only "on" for a baseball game for 2 hours rather than 3.

Yeah, but that would technically be working against you. He gets the extra time for commercial breaks, i.e. those static logos go off the screen for a little while. If he did what you do, he would have probably had his current issue much sooner than he did.

Question for all you smart gentlemen. I recently got an S60 and the ABL is driving me mental when playing Fifa 2013 (due to their overuse of white in the menus). How does the ST60 fare in regards to ABL? Has anyone noticed the screen turning grey when viewing the menus in Fifa 2013? I have a 30 day return policy on my S60 so if the ST60 is better I'll switch over to that, or possibly even the F8500 if the ST60 suffers from this as bad as my S60 does.

I should also note that being from Canada hockey is a major part of my TV viewing experience, so a TV that doesn't turn grey while watching it would be great.

I would think it behaved similar. Your not going to get a bright white screen on a plasma.

Not being a smartass, but why not? I thought plasmas were better for sports than LCDs, but I guess that's for motion artifacts, not clarity of whites? So what's a die-hard NHL fan to do?
