I hope it's not the panel, I would have to take it back in a hurry!

I called Best Buy and they are bringing me a new one tomorrow. I had a couple people here tell me to do that. My Manufacturer date was Sept BTW.

I have not experienced this with my 60ST60, However ... this has happened to me in the past with my 6 year old 46" Sony LCD. It only happened with my PS3, usually dropping the picture only, sound continued through my receiver, perhaps once during a movie or game playing session. It was just a momentary drop of picture, then it came right back. I exchanged the PS3 once, that did not resolve it. I bought new HDMI cables and changed the port it was plugged into, still happened. I just gave up and lived with it as a minor annoyance. Researching pointed to a possible hand shaking issue between the PS3 and the TV HDMI ports. I never did find a solution though. Now, same PS3, same cables, different TV's and it has not happened in the 2 weeks that we've had this setup. That does seem to point towards a handshake issue between the two devices.

Hey guys, if any of you get a discount from Panasonic on their website they have the 60" on sale for $1359 w/free shipping. That is just $ 10 more than the 55".

i just got my new one. August Manufacture date. my last one was September. now im kind of worried about the different. i have noticed the remote for the TV is 2 shades. bottom half is black and top is a dark grey. haven't really tried it out yet though. so i am not sure on all the differences.

Is there any reason to think that ST60 prices will drop significantly in the next 4-6 weeks? Or is it more likely that availability will be limited possibly due to uncertainty regarding 2014 Panasonic PDPs?

Demand is already very high, with the stellar reviews and low prices. I don't imagine prices dropping, unless you find a specific sale. There's Black Friday coming up, but if they don't have stock, you could end up getting say $100 off but still have to wait another 2-4 weeks to actually get the TV...

+1; even with BF deals, I doubt you'll see much if any discounts on these sets due to the HUGE popularity and high demand for these sets, especially with the news going around (accurate or not) that Panasonic is getting out of plasma and this might be the last year for a full plasma lineup.

I'm waiting for BF to buy a second one. With Discover's price protection that leaves me set for any drop for the Super Bowl also.

Many times often you will find yourself staring at a black screen don't be mistaken. Reference any kind of movie with dark scenes, I suggest movies with space scenes like in 2010, Star Trek or Avatar, the stars will shine and pop out at you. Reference other movies with dark scene content like in the Dark Knight movie or the Harry Potter trilogy etc. that's where black levels really shine. cool.gif

I agree that black level is important, but.....only to a certain extent. Older LCD's and Plasmas had horrible black levels that made for very unsatisfying viewing of dark scenes. I find that today's better sets may not have inky black levels but they are quite close. So much so that dark scenes can be very satisfying especially when there is some bright highlights in the scene.

Other viewers insist that contrast ratio is the most important for a satisfying picture. Picture resolution is considered much less important.

In my opinion, any one of the basic display parameters can utterly destroy the viewing experience. The bigger point is that once you arrive at an adequate contrast ratio, black level, resolution, overall color accuracy, and motion smearing then I am inevitably drawn to the resolution of the display. That is just my two bits, but After 14 years of enjoying Hi-Def displays starting with my Pioneer Elite 58" rear projection I am still bowled over by something like a 1080P Pixar movie.

I complain every time I go see a movie about the black levels make no mistake eek.gif I'd much prefer to wait and see the movie on my home setup, it's way better then any movie theater I can assure you. The only advantage I can think of is the larger screen and getting to see the movie right away without waiting for it's release on Blu-Ray but that's about it. rolleyes.gif

Nope, they just took a slight price drop.

Does anyone know why sometimes it is taking a while for picture to show up to my TV from my reciever? Everything is routed through that then 1 HDMI cable goes to the TV. So I just press the source button on my receiver remote and it switches over. But now its taking a while for picture to show up. Is there a certain order I should turn stuff on in?
Sounds like a handshaking delay. I've always followed a mantra that the monitor should be on first, then the source. Adding a receiver would generally mean 1) Monitor 2) Receiver 3) Source. Try a couple experiments varying the order... lots of equipment are funky with stuff like this.

Have you turned on any video processing in your receiver?
I have an OTA antenna but I have not been able to get the ST60 optical out to pass any sound to my prepro or the optical in on my Oppo player. I can only get sound to come through the tv's speakers. Thanks for any input.

i am new to all this. but as far as the receiver goes its default settings. i have been messing with the Pass Through stuff and i think that might fix it.

Has anyone had any problems playing a movie through DLNA.  I have tried watching several HD movies and i only get about 20-30 seconds in then switches to next in my lineup.  I have tried using Windows media player and Plex.

Sometimes it will blink when changing sources and thats just the way it goes. As long as its the same every time I wouldnt worry about it. Processing takes time.

This TV has a sale on in australia for $999

I use the tv mainly for playing ps3 / fifa and hoping to use it for ps4 / fifa 14

I currently use a http://www.samsung.com/au/support/model/LA40C650L1FXXY-techspecs

The tv i currently use seems abit blurry when i play fifa on it always has been like what sort of improvent would this st60 be over my current tv and am i better holding of for some other new tv's ?

I also heard this panel suffers from 70ms input lag how noticeable is this

Thanks in advance

If your primary use for the tv is gaming I would stick with an LED

The ST60 would be a big improvement. Do you do a lot of gaming, if so I would recommend a high end Samsung Plasma over any Panny as they seem to be a bit more IR resistant than the new Panny models.

Proud new owner of a 60ST60, just got it during lunch yesterday and finished hooking it up to my Denon 591 last night. So far it looks amazing!

Question: I don't plan to do a break-in period using slides, just full screen content and limited static images. I have my TV set on home theater mode but for a couple of football games this weekend I'd like to view them in vivid mode. Is this ok? Or should I stay conservative with the brightness for now? Thanks!
I would be careful with higher contrast for the first 100 hours or so, the ST60 can get pretty bright even without putting it in Vivid which is not very accurate at all

I agree with Chunon, keep both the brightness and contrast lower for the first 100-200 hours. I personally avoid Vivid Mode as it makes for unrealistic and unsightly picture quality imo.

I figured as much...but I also figured the football field would look more crisp in vivid mode. And yeah, I kinda wanted to show my TV off a bit haha. I'll be prudent and keep it calmer, thanks for the advice.

High contrast won't hurt as long as you stay away from black bars and static images, that in includes channel logos which you probably can't avoid watching TV channels.

I'm getting edgy... waiting for the call from Best Buy about when tomorrow they will deliver my 60ST60. I called them earlier in the week to make sure they still had me on the schedule and they did. Can't call them to inquire time until 8 pm tonight, according to their agents. Sigh. Having paranoid thoughts about "suddenly out of stock" or other snafus. Last time I bought from Best Buy it was a cluster.

I guess I'm not the only buyer here who gets impatient, eh? Wish me luck!

Ha ha, jolly joker... Seriously though, I've got a bad record with BB. I chose to try buying from them due to some aspects being relatively easy to deal with (returns etc.), but only over heavy internal reservations about it.

In their defense, they said I would get a call before 9 pm, and it's not even 6 pm, so they have not done anything wrong. Yet.
