Thanks for the heads up. Was it ever available "online" (I see it for $997 but in-store only)? I'm on the phone now with Amazon. Took like 15 minutes for him to find the price then he said he wouldn't PM since it's only available in store and there isn't a store within 20 miles of me. On the upside, if Amazon does lower their price then I can still get a PM within 30 days of my purchase (which covers BF deals). I did get a $30 credit for the "inconvenience" but since they ticked me off with the phone delay, if I can price match a new purchase to a lower price then I may make them go through the hassle of picking up my current set for "excessive buzzing" but I would only do that for a significant savings like this. It's kind of ridiculous that they don't honor PM's for the entire return period...
I just purchased a P55ST60 to replace the secondhand Sony KD-34XS955 we've been watching for the past four years. I couldn't find anything else in my price range that matched the PQ of the Sony. It really is just gorgeous. I was set on getting the 50 inch, but canceled my order a day before delivery and popped for the 55 instead as a hedge against future buyer's remorse. The decision was not universally popular in my household, but the deed is done. Honestly, I could have been happy with the 50 inch, but I'm not at all unhappy with the 55 because the picture is so damn good.
I would be 100% satisfied with this television if it were not for the audio lag issues, which I'm working to address. Unfortunately there's no way I'll use the internal speaker even on lo-fi content like news programming, because some OTA exhibits severe lip-sync problems, and there's no way to correct that through AVR delay settings. I was pretty surprised by this.
