ONLY GOD FORGIVES - Ryan Gosling/Nicolas Winding Refn's reteams

20 Seconds Of Nicolas Winding Refn's ONLY GOD FORGIVES. But there are few movies this year as anticipated as ONLY GOD FORGIVES, Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling's next collaboration. Their last one, DRIVE, was in my opinion the best film of 2011, so ONLY GOD FORGIVES has a pretty high bar to jump over. Judging from this clip montage, Refn and Gosling may have come close. It's difficult to tell since it's only brief, but it doesn't look like Refn's holding back on the violence any. ONLY GOD FORGIVES opens sometime this year - likely after a premiere at Cannes. Here's the clip:

Whats weird is.. its coming to netflix january?
and in Denmark it premieres in theaters next april..and we can get netflix here. all we have to do is make an American account.. nothing illegal about it..

Netflix and RADiUS-TWC have announced a multi-year output deal in the United States which starts in early 2013. Here's the announcement:

Netflix, Inc. and RADiUS-TWC, the new multi-platform distribution label from The Weinstein Company, announced today a multi-year output deal for a slate of great new films that U.S. Netflix members can watch instantly beginning in early 2013.

Among them are Leslye Hedland's razor sharp comedy "Bachelorette" the raucous Sundance Film Festival sensation about three best girlfriends (Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan) whose night of prenuptial debauchery threatens to ruin the wedding; "Only God Forgives," Nicolas Winding Refn's eagerly awaited follow up to "Drive" starring Ryan Gosling and Kristen Scott Thomas; the Toronto and Telluride satirical hit "Butter" with Jennifer Garner, Ty Burrell, Olivia Wilde, Rob Corddry, Ashley Greene, Alicia Silverstone and Hugh Jackman.

HEY! Thanks!

This movie was on my radar, but I had not seen the trailer. Or the.... traillertte? Jings, that was short and not particularly compelling.

If you haven't seen Vahalla Rising, it's on Netflix. Very much a divider-of-people, but I liked it.

In so many ways, SO much like Drive in style and theme.

Then I found out that Winding Refn didn't write Drive. The director dropped out and somebody said, "Hey, you know what this movie reminds me of? Vahalla Rising. See if you can get that director to take over."

Here's hopin' Only God Forgives doesn't suck.

Think back for a min, did everyone including yourself thought the same thing when you saw the trailer for Drive? I know I did. But it's still possible that it could stink but I think it's very unlikely. RG and Refn have built a great relationship and teamwork and this won't be that last time they'll work together. I can see them as another tandem like Scorcese/De Niro.
