This is my first post to avsforum so I wanted to say thanks to all for the wealth of info and help available here.
I recently bought a 70" Sharp to replace my 52" Mitsubishi LCD. I've been very disappointed with the default PQ and unable to get a decent cal by my usual minor tweaking. I decided to try calibrating with a meter, so I picked up an i1Display Pro (i1D3), HCRF 3.0.4.0, ControlCAL Elite X5 v2.0, and the AVR 709 patterns.
Thus far, I've been able to improve PQ, but I'm still not satisfied (with the PQ or the results per HCFR). That being said, I'm just getting started and with help from Turbe, greeno, and others, I've got a few more things to try.
Thus far, I've achieved a very nice w/b cal with dE's less than 3 for all but 100 IRE. RGB balance looks very good, but luminance is still high, gamma is not at all flat, and I've been unable to dial in the primaries. The gamut triangle appears rotated compared to REC 709.
As I said, I know I've got a long ways to go before I give up.
I've measured some of the default modes with HCFR and would really like to see some "before/default" measurements from other TV's in this model. If anyone has some to post or can direct me to where some might be posted, I'd greatly appreciate it.
