Got this email last night. I don't have a Prime and I just sold my unopened HDHR3-US that I never got around to setting up (back burner during my recent move) in preparation for the HDHR4-US.

I am not sure when this will be available to retail but I think soon. You may be the first to get one, eh?

Is it maybe a confirmation to test the beta software for the current hd homerun prime?

I've been thinking of getting a HDHRPrime partly as backupf or my InfiniTV and partly to serve TV to my desktop for when I am nerding. I wonder what the difference in price between the 3 tuner and 4 tuner model will be or if they will just get rid of the 3 tuner model?

I'm sure the 3 tuner model is on the way out.

The 4 tuner will internally transcode MPEG2 to MPEG4 (h.264) for better streaming capbalility to DLNA devices. Other than that I haven't seen any other changes save for the additional tuner.

this email is for the beta firmware for the HDHR3CC and HDHR6CC which includes the DNLA. I signed up and have installed it. I have the HDHR3CC. I have to see if I have something that can read it. It may be only my HDTV, but i'll look into it more.

So can you report back on how it is performing as a CableCARD tuner? Did you go from the 04052012 f/w to this?
Fyi, I updated my Prime to the beta, and it's still working perfectly fine in WMC. Unfortunately the DLNA doesn't seem to be working! The DLNA server doesn't show up in any DLNA programs.
Well it's working now! I think some of the registrations are just taking a while. I tested it on my PS3 and within XBMC, and it seems to be working perfectly. Amazingly, within XBMC I'm even able to pause, fast forward, and rewind. I wasn't expecting that!

A beta that does exactly what it advertises and more without crashing or breaking anything? I like it!

So the tuner part works well? No more Error dialog boxes popping up or that nonsense?

Sorry you'll have to be more specific. Are you talking about in WMC?

Yes. The TV tuner works well in WMC and doesn't have the Tuner Not Available errors any longer.

Well I haven't tested it extensively but I have not seen those errors. I didn't have them before either.

So if you're having them now, I can't really tell you if the beta firmware fixes that problem.

Thank you for answering back. I do have them now. I think it is the slow and clunky Cisco TA that is at fault.

Only thing from the original announcement, mid 2013.

I kind of goofed and posted this in slightly wrong thread. Anyway, I did try to test the DNLA with my HDHR3CC. I can confirm it is doing the DNLA.

My HDTV (panasonic TCP-55VT50) has DNLA, and saw the HDHR and each of the three tuners. Unfortunately, the TV wasn't able to see anything past that. It acted like it needed to scan for channels or something. I tested the Plex DNLA and it was still working. Unfortunately, I not aware of anything I have that can use the HDHR DNLA service. On the same note, I don't know of anything that can use the HDHR DNLA, LOL.

If someone could do a Roku channel, I would be so excited because my bedroom tv is so old, and I have no cable STB, I can't watch anything that does't come out the Roku. Well, I can watch DVDs, since I do have DVD player hooked up to it. It's used about once a year.

^There are so many compatibility issues with DLNA and many TVs that it will be hard to tell what the problem is without trying another device. PLEX does a good job of making sure the DLNA content sent to a TV or other device is compatible. I doubt HDHR has this level of capability. Maybe if you could find some DLNA compatible software you could try accessing via a computer.

PlayOn?

But why? The HDHR already plays to a PC with WMC perfectly fine.

Just for testing the HDHR DLNA server. Unfortunately, Its not clear what software for a PC uses that protocol, at least not from my brief Googling. I know XBMC can add a UPNP source, but not sure if that is the same thing.

EDIT: if you have an android tablet, you could try something like this

Skifta + VLC beta works for our 2nd gen Kindle Fire connecting to DLNA-enabled Prime but for SD channels only, HD pixelates and stalls. Install Skifta from Amazon store, get VLC beta from this thread.

SD CEO says that an HDHomerun Prime app is coming to Android in 1st QTR, with DTCP-IP built in for protected content support. Won't be free but he says it will be cheap. Check out CES interview here.

Down the road they want to do DVR apps with full program guide, metadata etc. Looks like a great way to get off the dead-end WMC platform if they can get the software going.
Tablets, mobile devices and sealed-box devices e.g., consoles represent the only growth area for LAN based TV. PC/HTPC based TV has stagnated since MS shelved WMC.

SD's next gen product lineup is positioned nicely for non-PC devices which is why they included hardware based, adaptive h.264 transcoding and DLNA/DTCP protocol stack. Their just released DLNA beta rollout on their existing Prime product gives them about six months lead time to improve and stabilize the code and feature set before the new tuner products are released.

When the new tuner devices hit the market, their desire is that there will be several good quality player applications for tablets, some possibly including an EPG service, which would help get the ecosystem going. I'm hoping this happens.

Agree but the EPG and DVR storage space is a must on whatever device is used so the PC may still be the backbone for that, or an external drive connected to the prime. We will see.
For DVR, yes the HTPC as backbone. For tablets, live HDTV with an EPG might be a killer-app, no DVR required for this usage scenario.
Well, I got it working on the PS3. I don't know having to change networks on my PS3 because it's tediious and annoying how my LAN is setup. Apparently to get the channel listing, there is a channel scan through the web interface of the HDHR3CC that must be used, not the one used on your PC.Not the best example. I figure the pixelations is more my network than anything else. Since I wasn't planning on keeping the PS3 with that LAN setup, I wasn't going to try to fine tune it. Nonetheless, it is working.

I'm trying to fiddle with Android. The MediaHouse I can't seem to get to work. When I go to open the "cable" folder, I get some DLDA XML error. The MediaHouse does detect the HDRH3CC DLNA though.
I got it working with a Raspberry Pi and Raspbmc. As long as the resolution of the source matched what I have the Rasp resolution set to it plays fine. If Silicondust though is looking into creating their own app with DCTP-IP built in, that would be fantastic.

The next six months should be pretty interesting.

Personally I'm waiting for confirmation of the first PC software app that plays Premium Cable, copy-once programming.
