So the W101 direct was great. Kamiya impersonating Iwata was pretty funny.

The demo is sensory overload though and I was confused throughout the entire thing. I'm going to have to play it a few times and at easier difficulty as normal was not the way to go. It also seemed like the camera was never where I wanted it. I probably should've watched the ND before playing the demo, it showed off a lot of whats possible.

Yeah there's a lot to take in at once. It seems like a mix between Devil May Cry and Okami, minus that useful pause while drawing.

I hope the hint screen doesn't show up in the final version; it's very hard to see the map.
Wow, when they said the W101 demo was coming to the US "shortly after" EU and JP, I thought they meant like, days if not weeks. Nice surprise.

Anyway, I played the demo and while I agree it's very overwhelming at first (there are copious onscreen prompts but somehow it still doesn't do a very good job of explaining what's going on), by the time I put the Gamepad down I came away a fan. It looks overly chaotic at first and your first response will probably be to button-mash, but once you take a few minutes to process everything that's going on you start seeing the strategy beneath.

Hell, this game deserves buying for the awesomely ridiculous theme song alone.

That said, and I hate to be this guy, this game is still destined for the bargain bin. It's just too weird and niche, too hard a concept to grasp, to really catch on, never mind the Wii U's install base.

That's okay, I'll play it on my 360. Saves me from buying a six button controller or fight stick for the Wii U.
I'm still shifting through threads trying to fully understand everything, but from the sounds of it, you can now play GameCube games on the Wii U via Homebrew Channel and an app called Devolution.

It also seems to support PS3 BlueTooth controllers, Wii U controllers, HID compatible controllers, and lots of other good stuff like modem support for those that want to tap into the GameCube's LAN capabilities to play online.. It can also force widescreen in some games like Wind Waker and memory card emulation is included.

From what I read, you need a backwards compatible Wii in order to rip discs with a clever system in place in order to prevent online piracy that uses the Wiimote's internal memory to tell the Wii U that you indeed had the disc on your Wii and aren't just downloading a disc image from online. And obviously it needs to have the Homebrew Channel present.

It also seems to allow non backwards compatible Wii's to play GameCube games and allows Classic Controllers to function as GameCube controllers on the Wii. So it essentially erases a lot of unnecessary barriers that Nintendo has had in place in recent years.

Here's a long thread about Devolution (Which seems to be available)

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=614506

And a long thread about a similar project called Nintendon't (And which isn't available as best as I can tell so far as I'm reading up on it)

why does everyone on that forum say "megaton"
i don't really know and didn't notice it. I vaguely recall some anticipated announcement from Nintendo that fell completely flat when it was unveiled being nicknamed that.

But I really don't know why people at a gaming forum would be using a unit measurement like that. Videogame fans are a peculiar bunch when you leave the places that cater to the more casual fan and go elsewhere to forums full of people that live and breath nothing but videogames.

Gamefaqs in particular is an absolute hoot....

Apparently it means

In videogame folklore, when an announcement is due to be made that will "shake the foundations of gaming to its core", it is referred to as the "megaton". It inevitably turns out to be completely lame and non-eventful.

When does the first part ever happen

Final Fantasy XIII on 360 was a megaton announcement for example.

The second part of the W101 Iwata Asks is up. It's a good read.

Edit: Wanted to add this amazing tutorial video.

Just read a very positive review at IGN for the new Rayman game. Hopefully holding it back and expanding it pays off for them.
If you're even remotely interested in 2d platformers, Rayman Legends is pretty much no-brainer. I've played the hell out of the Wii U and PS3 demos....

Mongo, your oracle-like abilities are sharp as ever... Acording to Media Create (Yes, I'm dragging sales numbers back into the thread), W101 sold a total of 5,258 copies in Japan during week 1.

Confirmed, and Basic model is phasing out (better start checking Best Buy and Target for clearance!)

Nintendo's home console can be yours for just $299.99 starting September 20, the house of Mario announced today. That's a $50 price cut for a console that's about to get a steady flow of Nintendo-made games but that's been struggling to sell at even half the pace of its predecessor.

The Wii U will sell in two models: the existing black deluxe model bundled with the pretty-good game compilation Nintendo Land or in a new Zelda model. An image of the latter leaked last week.P

That Zelda console is black, but its GamePad controller is etched with Zelda-style script The bundle will also include vouchers to download a digital (duh) copy of the Hyrule Historia Zelda lore book and a copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.P

Both consoles include 32GB of on-board flash memory. The system can be connected to self-powered hard-drives for more storage capacity.
"Obviously we want to drive Wii U momentum," Fils-Aime said of the reasoning behind the price drop. "We've been very clear that software is what drives hardware. And we feel very good about the line-up of software for Wii U. Taking the added step to improve the value just reinforces our commitment to make sure that Wii U has a strong holiday this year and is set up to be a strong platform into the future."

This is perfect for me, sold off my 8gb console back in May at( if you can believe it) a profit. I figured if I can grab a 32gb model at $299 I'd jump back in. Adding Zelda( though I'd prefer a physical copy to digital) sweetens the deal that much more. Too bad they just don't have a single SKU with Nintendoland thrown in as well considering that's now like a $20 game, but that may be pushing it....

I've been selling off some old games and just about have enough to grab this bundle in a month. SWEET!

Cool, my white model's gonna be rare.

It seems like our white models might already be rare, relatively speaking.

Wii Sports Resort, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and New Super Mario Brothers Wii are being rereleased at a $30 price point for Wii & Wii U buyers. Seen some new copies of NSMBWii recently without the characteristic red case so I knew that they were reprinting that one but this is good news after the Nintendo Selects program has been stalled for several years now. $20 like those retailed for would be better though. smile.gif

I bought NSBMWii when it was new but hadn't gotten around to the other two and had been waiting for this to happen since I really didn't want to pay $50 for old games that could see price drops the next day. Hope Skyward Sword joins later this year or next since I missed that one as well. I imagine that Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Brothers are also obvious candidates since they were hugely popular 1st party games that weren't rereleased as part of the Nintendo Selects lineup.
