Well now that I've had one evening of playing around with the new BDP-S5100, I can see why it's so much cheaper than a new PS3
The low def 480 resolution user interface is almost laughable in comparison, a mere kindergarten version of the PS3's slick high speed, high definition 1080p XMB.
My main display: a 50" Pioneer Kuro plasma, I never bothered to fire up the projector yet to view on my 120" motorized drop down screen, I'll save that for the weekend.
The BD player itself "works" fine once the disc is loaded, video quality is okay, Bitstreamed TrueHD and DTS-HD MA audio finally show up on my AVR now (that my current 4 y/o Fat PS3 couldn't do)
Cant comment in regards to the on-line use: netflix, digital download, streaming capabilities etc, as I'm 100% hard disc in my hands with full HD audio glory kind of guy.
But it did find my wireless router for a firmware update without issue, The internet browser is horrible though. LOL! Never even tried Youtube,
If I didn't like having an SACD capable player in my system again, (although the menu system and lack of a playlist is a joke compared to the PS3)
I'd gladly return this and pay the extra $$ for a new Slim PS3 with a 160gig HD (that was on sale last month for just $179)
...and I still might after I see that horrible XMB at 480i at 120"
I should probably just wait for the PS4 later this year,
then move the S5100 to the bedroom ( where I have another Pioneer 50" plasma and no BD player yet)
