IR blasters usually bast IR, not plug in. If you place it anywhere in front of the player it will work fine. You have to get a high end player if you want an IR input jack. You can also control it over wifi with a smartphone app.

Roku only outputs RGB and always enforce noise reduction. As such I've found the picture quality to be softer than other players including Sony BDPs

Hi all, I recently purchased the S5100, and so far I love how it compares with the Panasonic BDP-220 that I returned because I hated its menu structure, remote, subtitle selection process, and superloud spinning with DVDs.

However, the 2 movies I played this weekend had a bit of the "Soap Opera" look to them, which was certainly not the case on the Panasonic, and it drives me nuts. I remember that effect is related to motion blur reduction etc, and I am not sure if there is a standard setting that I am able to change. Has anyone else had this issue? Am I missing something obvious?

Does anyone know if AT&T U-Verse supports the Super HD from Netflix yet?

Also, will a Kindle Fire HD be able to throw on the 5100? Would I browse the internet on the Kindle and throw it or on the 5100 itself?

Thanks.

Is there some reason the 5100 would lack VIMEO when the 590 has it?

Its there.

Just go to the Opera TV Store and install the app.

I don't think the player does any motion interpolation. Does your TV have per-input settings that may need to be disabled or altered? On my Sony, it's a combination of MotionFlow and CineMotion settings that enable it. You can turn MotionFlow ON, but if CineMotion is OFF or Auto2, it will only duplicate frames, and not interpolate new ones. CineMotion Auto1 enables that (yuck.)

There are no inputs at all. If they're both on the same network you can view some vids, pics, etc. U-Verse did not have open connect the last time someone reported it.

Well, I never got that email Sony said they were going to send me with escalated support for missing Netflix/Amazon/Pandora icons. I guess I just have to keep chatting with Tier1 support and hope for the best. It's been more than 2 weeks since purchase, so I can't just return it anymore :/

Most retailers offer a 30 day exchange/return policy. Where did you purchase it from?

Thanks. How is the DLNA on the 5100?

I have had the s3100 for about a month. Trying to program my Sony STR-DN1030 remote to control the s3100. I tried the 3 codes in that manual - 310,311, 312 and no luck. Does anyone know the code? Thanks. I couldn't find it on the Sony site either.

Try again. 310 should do it.

Does anyone know if blu-ray player 5100 or 790 can recognise AVCHD folder like a blu-ray disk?

I own 780, I tried on usb, if u put there a copy of ur blu-ray disk files in a folder named AVCHD, it recognise ur movie from external hard disk or flash, but when I tried with DLNA not regnise that, can anyone tell me if this working on last models 5100 or 790?

thank you.

Best Buy. I think it is only 15 days with them.

My Receiver says:

Surround Mode: STEREO
Signal: Dolby TrueHD

Formate: 3/2/.1

try turning off bd audio mix in settings.

Thanks for trying to help. It was my receiver. Don't even know what I did to fix it lol. When your in the menu you can't see what the receiver is outputting, but when I exited after changing a few things I thought I changed before it was outputting correctly.

Sure NP. There were 2 settings to fix the same issue for me. One was the BD Audio Mix in the bdp and the other was in my AVR (different than yours) - The HDMI - from TV + AMP to just AMP. Glad you figured it out!!

And just like magic, I saw a new icon saying there is updated content available. I clicked on that, and voila, Netflix and Amazon reappeared. Glad this problem is over with.

Sixty days with Silver Reward Zone. I purchased my second S5100 from BestBuy and was able to get a price match thirty or forty days after purchase because of the sixty day return policy.

I use blu ray players only for BDs and DVDs. When I saw the picture quality of this machine, I replaced my S790 with it. All of my Blu Rays looked better than ever and the DVDs were equally as great. These players have triluminous color.
The S790 does not. Looking at the 4K mastered Blu Rays was even better. I brought two more for my other rooms. I purchased the machines at Cosco for $109.99.

It seems odd that the new Sony 70R550A has a optical connection yet the 5100 only has a coax connection.

They wouldn't connect to each other anyway, you know. I figure they did that because AVRs have been sharply cutting back on the number of S/PDIF inputs, and there may not be more than one optical and one coax.
They do sell converters for about $11 for coax to optical or optical to coax.

A friend of mine has their non smart Sony TV connected to their Sony 3100 blu-ray player. I'm not sure how it's connected though.

"Smartness" or the lack thereof doesn't imply anything here. For what we were talking about, the TV and BD player have digital outputs, and connecting two outputs together would make no sense. For your post to be a counter-example, your friend's TV would have to have (a) HDMI or more likely DVI for video, and (b) a digital audio input.

I've played both Bluray and DVD+R discs with AVCHD on the S5100 and they worked fine. Haven't tried it with an external or flash drive, though.

Hi all. I just got a 5100 player the other day and was drying out the DLNA streaming of it. When I first set it up, it was able to see the MP4 files on my DLNA server ( tversity) and although it is not able to play all of them, it can play most of them. But today, when I tried going to the same MP4 files, the player is now reporting "no playable files found". I did not change any settings on both the server and the player side at all. Is there a setting where you make it show all the files, not just supported files ? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks

Any chance of Sony releasing firmware that enables album art for flac and sacd files. Cd's dial out to gracenotes so why don't sacd discs? Anyone know of any workarounds?
