My point is that there may be people who arrived at this thread to post their problem as a result of a google search and that would be problematic in terms of shading the data. Mainly, what I was driving at was that there are posts of people relating about returning their sets based purely on the serial numbers of their sets. And seeing a post from someone extrapolating percentages of failure rates on certain ranges of serial numbers based on the returns reported on this thread only throws fuel on the paranoia fire. I just wanted to put it out there that this entire thread is anecdotal not based on random, unbiased information gathering and should be viewed as such. A more accurate sample would be defective, charge-back units from someone like Walmart or Costco versus overall units sold in a given time frame.

Thanks again montecore and thank you Vizio!

Unit developed a dead pixel line. Sam's Club in my town (place of purchase) only had SN's 45 and 46. Called the number supplied in "Vizio special bulletin" and while on with the tech rep sent pictures of the bad panel...they agreed to replace with new one, also acknowledging the primary problem with the 38-48 serial numbers. So not a BSOD but perhaps the Green Line of Death...or GLOD LOL.
I will post when I get my new unit...in 8-13 days.

1) 12/18/2012 - Purchased.

4) Netlix App would crash - freezing TV and requiring me to unplug/plug the TV back in.
5) No - had to deauthorize and restart

I don't have any major issues as of yet. I don't use the cable box much (only for Basketball) and mostly BluRay and Gaming along with Netflix/Hulu is done. I do have it connected to my PC so I also play media that way also.

It seems I have one of the 'trouble' serial numbers but I also did by the 3 year warranty at Target so I may just ride it out and see if anything crops up.

Update

Bought day before Thanksgiving at walmart.
Used about 5 hours today.
Wife was watching today and screen went completely black. Sound stayed on for a few min then no sound either. Tried other inputs and other source devices. None work. About to call vizio now.
Same story - screen goes black, no menu, no startup logo. backlight does work, though.

Followed the instructions from the Vizio customer support on this very issue. Awesome customer support from Vizio.

https://vizio.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/962/kw/special%20bulletin

Talked with a CS rep in Iowa (Yay! US call center jobs staying put). Very helpful, qualified my serial number and setup the replacement.
Props to Vizio. Manufacturing defects happen. They put out a notice, provided an excellent warranty support resolution, and backup their product 100%.
I'm just glad I don't have to go fight the return/support/warranty issue through Sam's Club because it is pure lost cost for the distributor.
I feel confident that Vizio has addressed the issue and the replacement unit will not have this problem.

Would buy again. Especially at that $688 BF price I snagged this unit at!

Thank you Montecore and Vizio.

I'll also add that there are too many people posting with only one post etc. These folks literally could just be making up their claims to make Vizio look bad. Vizio claims that it is only a small percentage of displays within the S/N range of the bulletin. So far my set is running well after two months. It is comforting to know that Vizio handling the issue though.

1) 2 days
2) Local Tiger Direct store
3) yes
4) first one I got had a pretty big bright spot in one corner. Was expecting some uniformity issues since it is edge lit. I'm being picky since I install custom AV and look at Panasonic plasmas all day. Anyway swapped it out for another one hoping to get a little better factory build, and I did. Not perfect but a lot better. Very impressed with picture and havent messed with settings too much yet.
5) read 4
6) read 5
7) 60

Thats the first 2 of the model not the serial..my bad.

Correct. The serial # of 60 doesn't exist. Those numbers represent the "week number" of the year. The highest would have been a 52.

In 2012 the serial numbers were WAN ##########. In 2013 they are now WAP ####### (beginning with 01 etc.)

8) How many hours of viewing?

1) Purchased 11/22/12 Black Friday
2) Walmart
3) This is our first Vizio
4) On Jan. 22, 2013, the picture went black, but still had sound. 61 days after purchase
5) Exchanged under 90 day return/exchange policy
6) Another E601-A3
7) First TV began with 43, replacement begins with 47
8) average 8-10 hours/day

There is definitely a problem showing up now that it's been long enough for the market to be saturated with these TVs after Black Friday. mad.gif For now we've exchanged ours, but are very nervous about keeping the TV.

UPDATE: Well we are back to square one. The replacement VIZIO hooked up on 1/23/13 with a serial number beginning with 47 got the BSOD on 3/5/2013. Same exact problem: watching tv and then suddenly picture goes black and we only have sound.......ughhh! Debating what to do this time.......what a hassle this is mad.gif

NEWEST UPDATE: Went ahead and swapped out the second TV on 3/8/13 for one with a serial number 01 (WAP). Now hoping that the third time's a charm!

Unfortunately, both your units were within the known bad range. Get a new one and enjoy it!

I'm having the opposite problem... Picture is fine and sound isn't working.

Good morning to me mad.gif, woke up to turn my tv on so my grandkid can watch cartoons, looks like the BSD for me too, this is my second unit as well. I am on page one of this thread magic number of 47, glad I left it on a stand for a test period and did not hang it back on our fireplace. I appreciate Vizios effort but this is really getting to be a pain, every so many months...rolleyes.gif

EDIT 2nd unit was picked up from wallyworld on 12/15/12, under their 90 policy we have 6 days for an in store swap out. wink.gif

Agreed--Glad that both Vizio and Wal-Mart are stepping up, but it is very inconvenient to have to keep swapping. You got an 03--we had hoped to get a newer SN than 01, but that's the newest they had. Keeping our fingers crossed.........

Got our Vizio just before the Superbowl.

From Costco

First E60-1A3

Noticed a couple of instances of the screen going black for either a few seconds and recovering on it's own or after we turned on/off.

It's a serial No. 48 -

We are coming up on the 90 day return window at Costco on Saturday - Should we go ahead and return?

Did people who got the BSOD, have short periods of BS before the TV stopped working completely?
