Panasonic Touch Screen Viera TV's

Panasonic has unveiled their new line-up of televisions for 2013. The 16 new refreshed models feature Android and iOS compatibility, voice interaction and the new Touch Pen accessory.

Source of picture

Panasonic won't be releasing anything larger than a 65inch out of their 16. That being said though, their top end range (60 and 65 inch) series feature what they say offers "beyond the reference" level of picture quality.

The new line-up of 2013 models is set to be available as early as February 2013. No information has been given on pricing yet.

Looks like the 2012 VT50 innards are now the 2013 ST60 innards - minus the THX settings.

No full details yet of what the difference is between the ZT60 and the VT60?

According to some research I did on this forum, Rahzal mentions that the ZT60 uses a new panel as opposed to the rest of the series all use the same base panel as 2012. It has become the new flagship model which I believe the blacks will look insane on this TV.

My thoughts exactly. I am looking to possibly upgrade, but just because at times the floating black levels on TC-P50G25 get minorly annoying and have not heard of any fix for it.

I know last couple years all Japanese TV makers such as Panasonic, Sony, Sharp etc. have been seriously struggling to make ends meet. One of the biggest challenge they faced and still facing is Korean competitors such as Samsung and LG. But this could change. One big contributor for the troubles of the Japanese companies is historically higher Yen against pretty much all other currencies in the world and cheap Korean Won at the same time. The Japanese Yen appreciated more than 30% against the US Dollar and Korean Won in last 5 or so years. While Korean Won was steadily low and even got lower against the US Dollar. So there are double reasons why the US consumers pick cheap TVs made by Korean makers over their Japanese competitors.

But since the Japanese Democratic Liberal Party won the election less than a month ago, a new prime minister Abe started working to bring high Japanese Yen values lower. He is putting a lot of pressure to ease monetary policy set by the central bank of Japan. With such efforts within one month, the Japanese Yen is cheaper against the US Dollar by almost 17 percent compared to the values in September last year. Also, Korean Won has been appreciating its value against both US Dollar and Japanese Yen. Even Japanese stock markets have been rallying last few weeks and are up more than 15% at the same time.

It may be too early to judge if this trend of lower Japanese Yen and Higher Korean Won/US Dollar is a steady trend. There is another election in Japanese for the House of Representatives later this year. If the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party wins just like they did in the Senate last month, Prime minister Abe, the head of the party, will have much easier time controlling the Japanese political scene and push his addenda. Then his monetary easing policy will take much deeper root. It will then revitalize failing Japanese economy and relieve their TV industries.

I hope what I have just written comes true. It's too sad to see Japanese TV industry dissolves in the near future...

Touch screen pen, I don't even like the motion control on my Sammy Plasma....and on top of than, it will only take one time for my 3 year old to see me using a pen on my tv before she realizes its ok to use blunt instruments to color with on Daddy's TV!!!!eek.gif I realize that all of these extras, voice control, motion control, pen touch control, are gimmicks for the initial purchase to set them apart from the competition, I wish they would just let their picture and price do all the talking....Or do what Mitsubishi did for a little bit and throw a respectable row of speakers in a flat panel for once so our receivers, amps, and speakers can take breaks while watching the damn news or My little Pony Friendship is Magic!!!!tongue.gif

Problem is every other country is trying to do the same thing. No one wants a strong currency. You would expect the stock market to rally when a currency goes down. The same thing happens in the US. USD drops, dow goes up. A 15% rise in equities when the currency depreciates 17% is just an illusion of a rallying stock market. The market hasn't rallied at when priced in the world's reserve currency.
