Looking for 55inch like vt50 but not as wide

Hey there,

I am in the market for a new plasma/lcd tv. I have been reading up and it looks like the vt50 from panasonic is very nice. However it's about 1/2 and inch to wide to fit in my media furniture frown.gif.

I don't care if it's plasma/lcd/led whatever, all I care is that that horrible fast motion look isn't present. I seriously cannot stand going to people's houses and watching their tv's when that is present. I believe I read that its because of "motion interpolation" being used with tv's at 120hz and higher. What confuses me is that my 8 yr old plasma looks perfectly fine and runs at like 600hz.

So I believe I "need" the 24p mode to get rid of this effect and I believe the vt50's have 24p @ 96hz which is 4:4 pulldown or it shows the same frame 4 times to keep the tv at a true 24fps as opposed to other 24p tv's that I guess just slow things down, which leads to other problems. I haven't seen this on lcd/led's so I am assume I have to go plasma to get away from the soap opera effect.

The TV cannot be wider than 50inches and preferably a smidgen less wide, so I don't have to crowbar the sucker in there smile.gif

Thanks for all your help!

You can turn a lot of the motion off, look at the sony 55HX850 good looking tv has gotten good reviews. I think around 48" maybe 48 1/2 inches wide. Also some of the LG's like the 55LM7600. In a 55 inch range an LCD/LED maybe your best bet.

It looks to be that way...So correct me if I'm wrong. Any LED/LCD with 24p in a multiple of 24hz should be a 1:1 pulldown and look just fine right? like the Panasonic VIERA TC-L55DT50 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D Full HD IPS LED-LCD TV. Since it has 24p it should be running at 10:10 pulldown right? I will check out the other tv's you mentioned. Thanks!

Actually the 55HX850 is 50.24" Wide (i was considering buying one until i saw how horrible the off-axis viewing angles looked).

55GT50 is 50.6" Wide

55VT50 is 50.7" Wide

55ST50 is 51.0" Wide

LG tends to have nice thin bezels so maybe one of their models will be narrow enough to fit.

Another option that i did for a friend who's wife insisted that his new TV fit into her beloved Armoire - i used a router (with her permission) to carve a half-inch deep indentation into the left and right sides of the opening which enabled him to fit a 42" flat panel TV into it. Happy hubby, happy wife.
