Running Scared - 2006

For those who haven't seen it, watch the trailer or just rent... don't read IMDB or anything else, just go in blind and prepare for unadulterated awesomeness!

I could have sworn there was a thread for this because I remember posting about it the first couple times I watched it. This is now available way cheap on blu but when I saw it, it was only available on DVD but there was a region free German BD that I imported. This movie flew way far under the radar but is a rock solid straight forward adrenaline shot to the chest. Vera gives one of the best performances of her career and the pacing could not be more perfect. If you have not seen this yet I very highly recommend it but go in blind and I promise you will enjoy it much more.
Paul Walker and Vera Farmiga are fantastic... especially Vera... wink.gif

Still waiting for this one to show up in a proper US BD release.

This movie is very good. Paul Walker's best by miles.

Watchya mean? I see it on amazon for $14.99? Is the US different than the German BD?

This is the one movie I took to Wally World so I could have it upgraded from DVD to VUDU HDX.

Balls-out adrenaline-rushing outstanding movie regardless of Rotten Tomatoes or whoever.

You might need a seat belt for your easy chair.

That's the release from Alliance Canada.

There has not been a proper US release yet.

So I'm assuming no OAR and DD or lossy?

Hard to remember exactly. Alliance commonly would release scope titles cropped to 1.85 and I think this is one of those releases, unfortunately. Whether it has just DD 5.1 or DTS-MA is another thing. It has been a little less common that they would only have lossy DD 5.1 but it could be the case too. I just know that this one was not a very good disc so I just sorta forgot about it and have been waiting for a better release.

It's a really underrated title and more people should see it.

Amazon shows 1.78 but they are usually wrong. The only titles I have from Canada that are correct OAR are REC and REC2 but I don't know if they are Alliance releases. My German copy of Running Scared is pretty solid, no DNR, dynamic DTS-HD MA track, and the menus are much easier to navigate than some of the French and Korean imports I own. My aunt had this from netflix and all but forced me to borrow it. It sat on my counter for a month until I finally said "ok, let me give it 15 min and mail it back tomorrow". By the time the credits were up I was importing the German BD and forced my wife to watch it who also loved it and did so drinking bourbon on the rocks with me.... I know, I'm a lucky man wink.giftongue.gif

Is the German copy Region A compatible? I don't want to assume. And doesn't it have forced subtitles?

Yes, region free, no forced subs. It defaults to the English DTS-HD MA track with German subs but you can switch them off in the pop up menu and all is rosy.

I was thinking of this yesterday and could not remember the title. Seen the Disk from NF. I think it was of the better PW movies. A True gem.

I bought the dvd about 4-5 years ago. Fantastic movie. Definitely flew under the radar. Paul Walker isn't necessarily known for his acting versatility, but this is probably his finest performance.

Sorry but it is ALL about Vera, not PW wink.giftongue.gif

Paul followed Running Scared with Eight Below. I thought he was very good in EB, too. If you are a dog lover this is for you. The movie is much better than the trailer.

Agreed.

This is a very underrated movie and would love to pick it up on BD someday.

The brain cells I have left are horrible with titles. I had this pegged as a totally different movie! Back when I had an HD DVD player I almost imported this bad boy. Good stuff!

Eight Below is really good too. I can admit I like Paul just fine.
