Pioneer HLD-X0 laserdisc player problems, help required.

I posted this in the other long thread, but there isn't much activity there these days, so....

I have an X0 player that though well packed obviously had trouble during shipping.
At first the tray/door wouldn't open. I pulled it apart and got that sorted.

Now the problem appears to be that the laser is too close to the disc.
The disc starts to spin up, after a second or two I hear the laser hit it. I can see fine marks on the disc where it hits.

I then get a P5 error.

I was getting a U1 error when I first put it together.

Without a disc in the laser moves freely up and down the rail, and the light comes on then off.

Any ideas, or anyone have a service manual? The HLD-X0 was a mongrel to get apart.

That makes sense as the disc clears the laser assembly until that point.
How would I go about trouble shooting this?

The problem was actually that the entire laser block was crooked in the sled. Removing one of the machine screws allowed it to fall back into place. Replacing the screw and it is all now nice and square.

Reassembled it all, the player now turns on for about 20 seconds, and then just switches itself off again.

I wonder if I messed anything up while poking around.

Pulled it apart and re-assembled it all, it now works and plays discs.

However they come up garbled and in black and white, barely watchable. I'm guessing it needs to be re-aligned?

Thanks Kurtis, I have had no luck finding a manual. I'm guessing if the mechanical alignment is still out, then it would be difficult to get a servo lock. I barely get a picture at all and the picture drops out completely every couple of frames.

If anyone has an X0 service manual, I am happy to pay to have it professionally scanned or copied, plus pay for the time etc. involved to get it to a scanning place etc.
There is no-one in Australia that can service the X0, so I am kind of stuck unless I can get hold of a manual.

I'd be happy to translate it into English as well.

I ended up purchasing a service manual, so far no luck with fixing it, but I will keep at it!

No, I still haven't got the thing going. If it wasn't so heavy I'd send it to Duncan, but freight to and from the US makes it not feasible.

Thanks Curtis, I was thinking about that the other day. The base plate is incredibly heavy, we have a 30kg limit for OS freight here, it may just bring it in under that if I put an aluminium plate on there instead.
