Soundbar or surround speakers for open floor

Our living area has tiled flooring- open floor plan- 20 ft ceiling.
55" TV.

I like the simplicity of a soundbar with a wireless subwoofer as opposed to 5-6-7 speakers with receiver and subwoofer.

Right now we are testing out Energy speakers 5.1 with subwoofer and Pioneer reciever :VSX-1022-K
Because our room is open the sound is 'thin' when we watch TV. and this is becoming very frustrating.

(When watching The Dark Knight, sound was great.)

we watch mostly cable TV . we watch movies on BluRay maybe twice a week.

Which soundbar would be good for us- in your opinion?

In a large open floor plan small speakers are not going to cut it. Despite the fact you have tile floors, with is not a good thing.
Before I even get into speakers, you need to find the most dense area rug you can and place it between the LCRs/sound bar and seating.
You also do not mention what your speaker budget is, so I could be throwing out some options out of your price range.

I've never used a soundbar, but if I were to do so I would get the best I could find. I've looked at the Revel LCR8, seems that it should be quite good. Or maybe the JBL SB400.

Thanks for your reply-

Well in the meantime my husband wanted to keep the Energy speakers as I stated above and get everything tuned up/adjusted
which we did, and the sounds is great!

We didn't need to call in anyone to adjust the speakers to our room...the receiver did all that for us. It's a world of difference! I can't believe it...even with our tile floors,
high ceiling and no walled in room.
