What are the point of these top speakers in this pic?

Great set up, but I don't understand the point of the top speakers, are these the so called height speakers? They are so high in room I cant see any benefit from them at all. So please someone educate me on this. And have no fear of talking to far down lol. And in case there is any confusion i am referring to the speakers up by the ceiling.

Yep, those are Front-Height channel speakers, IMHO.

I can't comment on whether PL IIz or other FH signal sources actually help - never heard such a set-up.

I have a pair of speakers I mounted up high a long time ago, and when I recently got a receiver that does PLIIZ/Audyssey DSX I hooked them up for that purpose.

I'm seeking program material that actually seems improved by the height speakers. I have heard that the launch sequence in "Apollo 13" puts them to good use but I haven't tried that yet.

I have them too, although my setup is much, much more modest.



The height speakers take ambient audio cues from the surround speakers, and are very subtle. With movies, I notice them mostly in scenes depicting severe weather i.e. heavy rain/winds. However, it's not movies, but sports broadcasts, that I find their effect most obvious i.e. the background crowd noise in an NFL game.
