HD Radio now on 29 auto brands across 150 vehicles

Several carmakers are expanding their commitment to the digital dashboard by including HD Radio Technology: Acura, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Ram, Rolls Royce, Scion, SRT (Chrysler), Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo have all extended their commitments to the technology with new announcements, a mix of new vehicle launches, broader application, new services and standardization.
Five new vehicles equipped with factory installed HD Radio receivers are on display at the HD Radio booth (#9033) at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. They include:
2013 Chevrolet Traverse (Artist Experience)
2013 Ford Fusion (iTunes Tagging)
2013 Toyota Yaris (Standard with HD Radio Technology)
2013 Ram Pick Up (First Chrysler vehicle with HD Radio Technology)
2013 Hyundai Santa Fe (First Hyundai vehicle with iTunes Tagging)

On some of the various boards, I'm hearing a lot of negative comments about HD Radio in cars. Seems like the newer cars, especially, have an almost non-existent antenna....especially for AM and FM.

I talked to the Subaru folks last week, and their parts guy showed me the info on their optional HD Radios. He says that most new cars are using the little "blade" or "stub" antenna, mounted mid-line, right above the rear window, for everything....AM, FM, SatRad, and GPS.
If you purchase the HD Radio, it comes with an in-line preamp, to try to make up for the deficiencies in the little "paper clip" of an antenna.

I have seen this option in many vechiles, however to get the HD radio you need to bump up the audio system, if they would make it part of the basic package it would get a lot more exposure.

Not in all cases. A lot are making it standard. I've tried to note those in various threads and links.

The HD Radio in my wife's 2011 Mustang convertible works great, but it does have a rubberized rod antenna on top of the rear passenger side fender.

Do you get 105.9 HD2? (Smooth Jazz) I get some of the further stations in DC somewhat, but not even a blip from the closest station to here???? Haven't been able to figure out how to connect my outdoor antenna to my HD radio. So far, underwhelmed with HD radio (too many dropouts) Does it work that much better on a car radio?
