I'm helping a frend decide to go with Panasonic Plasma over LED, but need advice

My friends 36" Panasonic Tube HDTV from 2002 went out a couple months ago. So he was using my old 27" until he could buy a new set. Last week he purchased an LG 47LM7600 LED-LCD, but it is just too big to properly fit in his entertainment cabinet, so he went back to find a 42" unit and the (best) that was left was a Panasonic 42E50 LED-LCD. Even though it fits OK, he hates the picture on it.

I told him it would probably be best to go with a Plasma, but all the Panasonic 42ST30 sets are sold-out locally and on-line, so now have to wait for the new 42S60 to come out, though Panasonic got rid of the 3D feature on the 42".

Can anyone else make any further suggestions that may help?
The problem is that right now there's not a big selection in the stores for him to choose from, that's why I told him to wait for the new 2013 models to come out.

Not an option to get a new cabinet so the 47" set or a 50" plasma is an option? Going to a TV stand instead of cabinet was one of the smarter things I did years ago as you can put pretty much any size TV on a sturdy stand these days now that we're past heavy CRT sets or huge RPTV sets.

Otherwise, yeah, not much options in that size unless you go LCD.

I agree. Stands or wall mounts are the way to go.

I would agree, and have tried to convince him to replace his entertainment cabinet, but that's a few hundred $ that he doesn't really want to spend right now. That's why he wants to keep the TV size to something that fits OK inside it. Since you can't find the Panasonic 42ST30 any more, I guess the only option for a 42" plasma would be the 42S60.
