I assume this means it's working in Canada.

I'm also in Edmonton, but with Shaw, and it says that my ISP is not configured for Super HD yet. I guess there is some hit and miss based on that, although I will say that Shaw has been pushing their video on demand service quite hard over the past several months, so who knows if there is a conspiracy going on there LOL.

Now this is funny and I don't know how to explain it but with UnblockUS set up on my PC it shows SuperHD. If I go back to default it says my Shaw carrier is not set up for it yet. Weird.

Hi Billdag,
Can I ask you something. I am in Edmonton and on Netflix's page, I saw that you need windows 8 for super HD. Is that how you are getting it? I have win7 and if you can get super HD I would like to upgrade. Thanks

I don't actually use my PC for watching Netflix. Just for testing here: https://signup.netflix.com/superhd.
Sitting with my Win7 laptop and my modem/router manually set with UnblockUS DNS (208-122-23-22) the site shows - Your Internet Provider is ready for Super HD!.
If I reset to default AUTO DNS the same site says my Internet Provider has not yet signed up with the new Neflix Open blah blah blah.............
I currently watch Netflix on my Sony BD-S790 Blu-Ray player. With that, as well as the PS3, it can display what quality you are receiving. I know of no way the PC can do that.

Many thanks for that useful information. I will check it tonight and see. It is always nice to see what we are getting even though we don't have any choice to change it.

That's a great tip!!! Thanks for sharing it. I had look at how UnblockUS works and its a brilliant method for enabling VPN on all devices via simple DNS entry. Much easier to use than having to connection share something like VyprVPN via a PC into say PS3. I Got a subscription and confirmed via PC that bingo indeed Netflix SuperHD is ready to go. Whether the service will work well this far away on a 12.5 mbit connection is another question. But hey I'm just amazed it definitely gets the ready to go message from Netflix and how handy it will be for both my WDTV's, PS3, Oppo, etc. for Hulu and all streaming services generally biggrin.gif

In short? Get a different ISP. Netflix currently does not allow this feature to be used through Time Warner Cable. Until there is some form of agreement between the two companies you'll have to switch ISPs if you want access to this feature.

I'm not entirely sure. I'm betting if you google Netlfix SuperHD you'll find a list of current ISPs with this service.

Just use Un Block US. I have FiOS and with the FiOS DNS servers I have no access to the 3D or SuperHD streams. By subscribing to UN Block US and using their DNS server IP addresses I get access to the Netflix 3D and Super HD streams.

www.unblock-us.com/

They have a seven day trial.

My experiences with these streaming services so far don't give me a lot of confidence for UHD content quality.

Superhd is a new service from Netflix and it will probably take some time. When it works, it is great. Right now the the major problem is that not all appliances connect to the superhd servers all the time. I did 100's of experiments and so far I have not been able to pin point any pattern except that it is unpredictable. Some times it takes several attempts to get superhd. Most of the time, however, once you get it the superhd stays on. I have also noticed that in my experiments, WIndows 8 app had the best probability of connecting with the right servers. I am hoping that once more ISPs sign on and Netflix had time to evaluate, it should be good--may be summer 2013?

How do you know if you're getting Super HD on your PC??? I can tell on my PS3 and my Sony BD player as they tell you in the upper left display. I haven't found a way to verify the receiving quality on my computers.

When you are playing something, press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+D. You will see all the details for audio and video stream, overlaid on the screen. Press those keys again to get rid of it.

Just curious, but has anybody with Open Connect (through their ISP) compared Super HD with Vudu's HDX? I realize there is a difference in the data compression scheme, but I was wondering as to how it translates into actual picture quality. Thanks. (I pose this question on the video download services and hardware forum, in the open connect thread, and received no response.)

I will say this. I have only looked at the preview with vudu on a few things. Sammys adventure is one. If the preview is like the movie,,,,, well,,,,, I was not impressed. It showed 720p frame packing but looked alot like directv 3d. A little better but like 480 to me. I was looking for some 3d to be wowed by. This is with the ps3. So I dont know other devices may be better.
Netflix has sammys adventure in 3d and all I can say is wow its almost blueray . Its good. Takes a minute to ramp up but the little turtles had company cause I was swimming with them. They were in my lap and it was defenitaly a cut above the previes on vudu. Now may be the preveiw was not what the paid for movie would be. But it was not good good enough to get me to rent or buy. I went back to looking to buy the bd, but stumbled on to it on netflix. When did they get 55 titles in 3d???????????!!!!!!!!!!!! Was that just today or did i miss it all this time. And very good quailty in fact outstanding.
I watched Set up- with Bruce Willis and 50 cent. 2d I was shocked It was just like blueray with the super hd. The only time I could tell a difference was in some sceans there was a slight gradution or banding but rare. It would not be there with the bd but let me say it was surprising how good it was.
I never dreamed sterming could be soooo good. Outstanding and good job netflix.
Thats the way I saw it. Oft to watch some more 3d:D:D:D:D:D

From what I've seen, which isn't a lot, Netflix looks a bit sharper to me, but there is the occasional color banding on certain titles. The last flick I watched on Vudu was Total Recall and it looked a bit soft to me. I usually stream on my Roku which is connected my PDP. Thanks for the reply.
