A few bright or dark spots

I was reading the Troubleshooting section of an Insignia TV manual. I came across the following problem:

"The Picture has a few bright or dark spots"

The "solution" read:

"A few bright or dark spots on an LCD screen is
normal. It does not affect the operation of your TV."

Well, geez! Seems to me that it affects the operation of your TV about 100% of the time!

I had to laugh out loud when I read it.

A few years ago many, perhaps most, LCD HDTV had a least 1 and frequently several bad pixels (or stuck pixels). Some manufacturers had a stated standard for how many were too many and only if that number were exceed would they replace (or repair) the TV as being defective. The occurance of bad pixels has improved to the point that most new HDTVs today have no bad pixels, but many manufacturers will not consider the TV defective if it only a less then specific number (for example 5) such bad pixels especially if they are not located near each other and/or in the central area of the display.
