Doug Thorley headers for your V-8? Same sort of thing. The point, if one wants performance, then it pays to get the gear that will give them that performance.
In the case of subs, room analyzers, sound meters and EQ systems help get the most performance out of any set of subwoofers. If one cares about subwoofer sound quality, this is required behavior. To be encouraging, it's like this with "ANY" hobby whether running half marathons, taking your bicycle to Death Valley, buying a pair of tickets to a Knicks game or riding a train through wine country. Just saying.
Sharing insight here. One can simply buy a single subwoofer, drop it into their system and be unhappy with the results or, even if it didn't start out this way, use this as an excuse to get involved, get waist deep in the swamp, see where the ride takes them and have a good time in the process.
