You were obviously practicing your building skills with the F20s and plan to pass them down as a birthday/Christmas present to someone in your family (that's what I do with my old stuff)

Yup....it most certainly is.

And once you've been bitten, there is pretty much no hope.

Oh man, I can't wait for my theater to be done...and I haven't quite got the remodel started yet.....

I've been craving "proper" bass since we uncorked radman12's lilwreckers the first time.
The sub I'm currently listening to isn't bad at all - I just leave about 4 Hz of extension on the table in comparison, definitely an improvement over the T-6s.

The MicroWrecker?

The littler brother of the LilWrecker. Guess I can let that kitteh out of the bag too...

It is a 20 cubic foot tapped horn that is tuned a little higher and gets a little louder.

Cabinet is approximately 4' by 2' by 2.5', I loaded mine with a CVX-15, cause that's what I have.

It's real, I've built the proof of concept/test mule, and am currently listening to it.



No accurate measurements that I 100% trust yet, but my preliminary ones suggest that the response is very similar to Ricci's Gjallerhorn,
though I'm leaving the top 6 dBs on the table cause the CVX-15 is a pea-shooter when compared to the LMS-Ultra...



Based on the issues I encountered with my first build, I have changed the design a bit.
I have wood ready to cut for the second, which is the build I'll document.

Yes, there will be another thread soon.

The MicroWrecker will be fully documented in a separate thread once I am done with my second build (hope to make some dust this weekend, we'll see).

While it works OK, the cabinetry on the first build is not pretty...and paint alone won't fix it.

My proof of concept builds are put together as inexpensively as possible, using what I have on hand. There are three types of plywood in that cabinet...

Sadly, no, and I am not sure that I will be able to.

I have data that I trust for the LilWrecker.

I don't have measurements of the Micro that I trust yet, but I will be able to get those soon, it just needs to warm up and stay dry.

Unfortunately, the original measurements of my F-20 may have died with my old laptop drive (at least I can't seem to find them on my server). I am still looking though.

I use Photoshop and make each jpeg a layer - then I can use Opacity to fade & Blend Modes. As long as the size and scale are the same it easy. Otherwise things may have to be rescaled.

Don't know if this is appropriate to this situation, but it's has helped me do comparison.

Well, I'd like to get the second one built so that I can verify that I've addressed the "buildability" issues I encountered with the first cabinet.
I also need to update the cutlists, finish up my plans and drawings, as well as include all the the bracing I used on the drawings.

Not sure when I will get all of this done, but I hope to at least get things started this weekend.

Though I had grand plans, last weekend was pretty much a bust for me as far as shop time goes, hope that this one works out a bit better.

Is it just me or does every single lilmike project thread start with a build and pictures of one project, and then part way through always ends up being a QnA session on a new design in the works. biggrin.gif

F20 thread leads to HouseWrecker
HouseWrecker thread leads to LiLWrecker
LiLWrecker thread makes it a whole 1.5 pages before the MicroWrecker discussion starts.

The MicroWrecker thread will end up the Inter-dimensional quantum tunneling Horn Wrecker the size of a Bose cube yet has the power of infinite amps driving infinite 1" drivers through infinite inter-dimensional horns. It will be flat to -10hz and when playing THX's deep note will send the space shuttle to Mars.

I think I've been stuck in work camp for too many days.

Honest....

By the way - the Alpine Type S 15 looks decent in the LilWrecker. Runs out of linear excursion at the same time it runs out of RMS power handling.
Not sure on the mounting arrangement though - I have not actually looked at the driver in person yet, but face-mounting it may be a challenge. There are options though.

It is certainly affordable and attractive if it is indeed a viable drop in substitute.

It's easy on the eyes too.

Not all a bad choice. I have actual measured specs from a friend, they are quite close to the published ones.



Alpine in black, CVX in gray, both at a watt.

Sure, the Alpine runs out of linear throw a touch sooner, but the limit happens to correspond to the 4-ohm power output of an EP2500/4000 or similar amp...and that limit gets you precariously close to the 120 dB at 20 Hz 1M groundplane club. With something like 32 mm of one-way mechanical clearance, clanking the driver should not happen under normal use with a 15 Hz highpass in place.

I'd definitely run em if I had em, and for the money (assuming mounting is a non-issue) I'd recommend them over the CVX currently, cause I can get two shipped for about the cost of a single CVX.

It is good to see an "inexpensive" driver like the Type S work in this enclosure. I wonder if my spare AV15's would drop into these boxes confused.gif ?

I received the wrong drivers, D2 instead of D4, however, it sounds like I may be better off with the alpines.

It seems like the lilwrecker may end up costing almost the same as an F20.

I just finished 2 F-20's 5 days ago. They are great but I am starting on 2 Lilwreckers tomorrow. Ya, ya, I got it bad.

Will the dual 4 ohm Alpine Work? I would like to run 2 ohm stereo or 4 ohm bridged.

Any other drivers to consider? I would like to order drivers by Monday.

No worries, the D2 works fine. Same SPL where it matters, differences less than 2 dB otherwise.

I chose D4 since there were only going to be two cabinets and radman12 started with one amp, but was considering adding another.
With one amp, you can wire it 2 ohm and feed a pair in series with an EP4000 bridged, with two amps, you can wire it 8 ohm and bridge an EP4000 per cabinet.

According to the published specs, yes, Alpine's SWS-15D4 should work fine.

I am still not 100% sure on the driver mounting, but I have alternate ideas should they prove to be difficult to face mount.

From looking at the pictures, it doesn't look like it would be an issue. Might have flip the rubber gasket around or take it off and use gasket tape.
