Panny 55UT50, 55ST50 or LG 60PA6500

Since my 50A450 is dying after only 4.5 years I am looking to get a new plasma as I like their picture.
My plasma sits in a living room with decent light and gets used for everything. The samsung was plenty bright enough and glare is not a huge issue for with it.
Since I want to stay away from Samsung I went looking at the only two remaining Manufacture options.
I found the UT 50 for $800, or the PA6500 for $800 both at Costco which gives me an extra year warranty.
Or I could do the ST50 for around $1200.

I need the best all around picture, gaming and general tv watching TV.

What do you guys recommend.

The ST50 is the best plasma of those you list, especially in a room with some light (better filter than the UT50). LG is generally considered 3rd of the 3 plasma manufacturers. But you need to go look at them in >1 store to see which you prefer.

The repair dude I talked to said go LG or Panasonic because he repairs tons of Samsungs.
So when you say LG is considered 3rd is that due to PQ?

Yes. Panny and Sammy have better black levels. Again, I would go Panny ST50.

If u follow the calibration setting and adjust the white balance settings on the ut50 on the ut50 settings forum, you get amazing picture quality. Some have even returned their st50 for the ut50 to save the extra money, but then again it is up to you. i have the 55ut50 and let me tell you the picture is amazing, and the forum is extremely helpful. if you have any questions they will not hesitate to answer it on that forum.

My wife and I went and looked and saw the VT50.. and my wife said no way right off. The silver edges were a big no for her.

But she liked the ST and UT just fine.

True, both displays will calibrate to a similar PQ (if you get the display calibrated). But in a bright living room, the ST is the way to go due to the better filter.

Does the filter have any effect when you have no overhead lighting? I have a window on the left (large picture) and a lamp on the far right, but nothing on the ceiling.

Yes, the filter helps against the light from your picture window (I never watch with the lights on).

After looking at length at the LG and UT (ST is nice as well) I really prefer the LG or at least I perceive things about the panasonic I don't like. For instance the aliasing seemed worse on the panasonic. The solarization also seemed worse on the panasonic.
The panasonic definitely had better blacks and brighter colors. Reflectiveness in the store seemed identical.
What are the downsides to the LG?

lightest, least realistic black levels in its class. Colors lack saturation . more temporary image retention then other plasmas. suffers from solarization, which manifests as distinct bands in gradated colors. Input lag was bad when I gamed on it last year but maybe lg improved input lag.
