General questions on tone controls on receivers & tape out

Generally, does bass/treble control on a receiver impact the audio going out to a recording component, such as tape?

Wondering if I can use an old receiver for a "preamp", sending audio to a 2-channel amp from a tape output.

I am working on trying to find a way to test this out, but if the answer here is "generally, no", I may stop thinking about it.
