Where can I get a "stub mast" for my eagle aspen antenna rotator?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and new to OTA HDTV. Looking at the Eagle Aspen Rotator, the instructions indicate I should attach the antenna (a ClearStream2 in my case) to a "stub mast" (short 12" mast I'm supposed to get from somewhere). The stub mast will then be attached to the rotator and the rotator will be affixed to a "fixed mast" (I'm supposing my ClearStream2 J-mount). Anybody know where online can I buy the "stub mast" required by the aspen rotator? I really didn't want to pay the price of an extension I found on antennasdirect (almost $40) only to take a hacksaw to it.

Well, if you were using a 10' mast, you could just cut off the top foot. Otherwise, a piece of 1" EMT conduit will do the job. Of course, you may have to buy 10' of it if you go to a home improvement store. Still, it would only be about $7.

Do not mount the rotor on that 20" J-mount, it's not strong enough.

Thanks for the response; I don't expect the entire length (j-mount + rotator + stub mast + antenna) to be taller than 4 ft. Is it because of the weight of the rotator that you're saying this? The ClearStream2 is also pretty lightweight.

I know Radio Shack and Lowes has 5 foot masts.

Yes, the antenna is lightweight but the rotor is not.

You can also try larger EMT (electrical) conduit. Lengths less then 5'. More than that, you will need guy wires which you should have for any mast. wink.gif

There is a dedicated thread for the rotor here;
