apple tv2 to Marantz SR8400 receiver HELP

Just got an apple tv and trying to connect to my oldish home theater. I connected the ATV to my old NEC tv through an HDMI-DVI cable and am trying to get the audio to my receiver. I connected the optical audio cable from the ATV to my receiver and using the CD-R input am able to get sound but it's stereo, not 5.1 surround. Any idea how I can get it to be 5.1?

There's a setting on the ATV to output DD 5.1. Then, choose a selection that has a DD 5.1 soundtrack.

AppleTV Audio Spec:
•HE-AAC (V1), AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV; Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound pass-through

Two things

1) I remember reading DivX and Xvid don't work, so if the DVD was ripped it might not work.

2) Setting Audio:
Get to main menu>Settings>Audio&Video

In Audio&Video there are two place you can play with: Dobly Digital and Audio Out. The default I think is auto, but i guess you can play. Let us know what happens.
