JVC DLA-X75R vs Epson 5020UB

Hello All,
So I am trying to make a projector decision. I understand these two projectors are almost in entirely different classes, but I'm trying to see if the JVC really justifies twice the price over the new 5020UB since the reviews I read are pretty raving. I am going to use the projector for 60% gaming 40% movies, no TV, sports, etc. I will have quite a bit of control of ambient light, I can do anywhere between a 10' - 15' throw range, hopefully on a screen between 110" and 120" (Screen has yet to be selected so I can choose the ideal gain later). My primary focus is black levels being really solid, I can care less about 3D performance as I will rarely if ever use it. I could also see myself possibly buying both, but does anyone have any thoughts? Not too many reviews have put these projectors head to head at all really.

for gaming, you should be also considering the Sony HW50, it has the lowest lag time vs. Epson or JVC. Is your room blacked out? (ceiling at least?) This is how you'll see the best the X75 has to offer. Otherwise if your set on a JVC with less than perfect room conditions, the X55/RS48 would make more sense.

If you don't like 3D, you can always sell the included glasses that come with the Sony.

There is plenty of feedback on these projectors if you spend some time reading through the shoot-out thread.

Why don't you compare the 5020 and the X35 - their street $ should be pretty close?

The room will be pitch black with some thick drapes. Would the VW95ES be any better than the HW50? I was reluctant to pull the trigger on a Sony since I heard they will be releasing some new stuff soon.

I considered the X35, but the X55 is probably my most ideal price range, the 5020 being the low end. However then I considered the VW95ES which is just a step up and I landed on the 75. The 95 is just way out of my price range. I'm a bit all over the place as you can tell.

Thanks for the link, I just started reading through this. I appreciate your quick input!

I'd get the JVC, but it really depends on the gaming you'll be doing. If it's online stuff that requires fast reaction time, you'll get frustrated by the JVC. Lag is awful on these.

If you're going to be gaming, I'd get the Sony HW50. Game mode on it s quite good. Another option is to get two projectors, which is certainly in your budget. Get a JVC for movie viewing (X3, X30, or X35 will all provide an excellent and very similar 2D image) and a cheap DLP for gaming, such as the Viewsonic Pro8200.
