SVS PB 12-NSD vs. Paradigm PW-2100. Thoughts?

Hey guys,

Not sure if there are many out there who have had the chance to listen to a pw-2100 but I hope that some can chime in with some opinions.

My listening room is 11' x 16' with 8 foot ceilings. I mostly watch movies but occasionally listen to music when we have guests over. More or less "party music". So all in all my listening habits are about 60%-40%. I'm looking for a little more detail when watching movies. Although my paradigm does reasonably well I'm looking for that little extra detail and punch! Wondering how you guys would compare the pb12-nsd to the pw-2100? How much of an upgrade would it be? would it be worth $800.00?

A few years ago, my buddy and I A/B'd my BASH-powered PB10-NSD against his PW-2200v1. The PW beat the PB10 - a bit more output, a bit more extension - but not by a whole lot.

A little while later, I replaced the PB10-NSD with a BASH-powered PB12-NSD. Although we never A/B'd my PB12 against the PW, the PB12 was clearly stronger than the PB10 (in output and extension), so it most likely - and easily - would have bested the PW.

The current PB12-NSD is more powerful - and, by all accounts, more articulate - than my old PB12. IMO, it would be a worthwhile and noticeable upgrade to your PW-2100.

That being said, if you really want to blow your PW away, consider the PSA XV-15 ($799, shipped).

SVS subs are available in Canada through their Canadian distributor, SonicBoomAudio.com.

I'm not certain, but I believe that PSA does not ship to Canada. One option - if it's viable for you - would be to have a sub delivered to a "mailbox" address - like a UPS Store - on the U.S. side of the border (free shipping in the U.S.!) and pick it up there.

Just checked there site and it seems they don't ship to Canada. Any other suggestions for a $1000 budget? Can't go much bigger than the PB 12-NSD other wise I will only have one placement option. Which would be beside my couch and there's no guarantee that there won't be a null in that spot. I've heard lots of good things about SVS and always wondered what an SVS sub would sound like in my room. Just don't want to spend 800.00 on a "mediocre" upgrade. Ideally I would like to notice a substantial difference. Let me know if there is any other options for a $1000 sub that will destroy my pw-2100! biggrin.gif

Yes I was considering the VTF-15H! haha you have a good memory! I've moved since then and no longer have the room for such a monster sub. Yes this may be the year I purchase but I am trying to save for a friend's wedding so maybe not! we'll see! Just weighing my options right now.......although....... that VTF-15H would be nice!!!

Not sure but I am getting them. I talked with Doug at SVS and I was going to get dual PB12 NDS's but he said since I hardly listen at reference levels dual PB1000's would be good for my 15.5x30x8.5 room.

So I am sure they'ed kick Arse in your room!!

+1 to dual PB-1000s...although with taxes and shipping factored in, the total cost would be +/- a couple hundred bucks over your (Devin1886's) $1,000 cap.

Yeah my total was 1053 , I live inthe Buffalo NY area. But CA would be higher I'd think unless sonicboom has them in stock.

I'm pretty sure PSA does ship to Canada. At least they did when I asked....you have to contact them directly for a quote though. Shipping such a heavy sub to Canada may not be cheap though, and that's why SVS is one of the better choices for Canadians

Gotcha. Not sure I would got with the PSA anyway. I'm sure its a great sub and all but the overall design didn't appeal to me. Not that its ugly, just not pretty enough to spend that extra shipping!rolleyes.gif

So I've looked at all my options and it seems that after doing some research I've been swayed out of my budget!! lol I would really love a Rhythmic FV15HP but Since I live in Canada, the whole "cross boarder" issue has me weary. If there was any kind of issue with the sub, I would likely eat the shipping charges if I had to return it. So I'm wondering if there has been any reported issues with Rhythmic subwoofers in the past? Has anyone had to return there's? I am also aware of the option to have the sub delivered to a U.S. address such as a UPS store. Does anyone know approximately how much I would save if I did this?
