Looking at purchasing these, unless you have a cheaper / better idea? Thanks!

These are individual items I chose, but I would love to hear some of your recommendations based on this being my first time purchasing such a system.

This would be playing Blu-Ray, Xbox/Gaming, streaming netflix/hulu/pandora, and music from the iPod.

I wanted to ask would purchasing the individual items above provide better audio experience than purchasing a speaker package such as below? (I was also considering this package)

you are getting a much better sub with the individual speaker purchase, but the Pioneer towers are probably better than a pair of BIC bookshelf speakers. No right or wrong answer here, almost all of our home theater setups are a series of compromises.

Get the Pioneer speakers through Best Buy without the sub, then add in the BIC F12.

Meanwhile, if that would push your budget too much, you can get the Denon 1612, last year's model, from accessories4less.com as a factory refurbished/factory warrantied model. Good savings. Here's a review of that model: http://www.hometheater.com/content/denon-avr-1612-av-receiver
