4K Ultra HD and extraordinary audio in one! Sony brings it to CES

Yea, I know CES is over, but little things are still coming out. Take Sony's stunning 4K Ultra HD sets. Word is new technology is allowing Sony to have speakers worth listening to.

Available standard on Sony’s forthcoming 55- and 65-inch 4K displays (XBR-55X900A and XBR-65X900A), the speakers feature “magnetic fluid” as an alternative to the dampers found in conventional speakers.

But what about the subwoofers? No way you get ground shaking bass from these little speakers. Well, Sony has that covered as well.

As the floor vibrated during the demo, I was sure there was a subwoofer connected to the TV, but there was not. There are two subwoofers, each two inches deep, built into the rear of the TV, but for more bass response, an external subwoofer can plug into the TV’s headphone jack.

With all the sets getting better, and the difference in picture quality becoming less and less, someone has to create TVs that do something to set them apart. Maybe Sony has found the answer.

So are you ready to dump your audio systems in favor of an all-in-one TV set?

I always thought the higher end LEDs would utilize a "Full Array" rather than "Edge Lit" even with it's version of "Local Dimming". I also see they have brought back the "TriLumos" LEDs from the XBR 8, as well as the "OptiContrast" panel from the Hx909.

I dont care what kind of speakers they have on these sets because they wont reproduce the sound you get from a surround sound system. And Edge Lit is being used on the new 4K sets? Does this mean no more full array? Guess so.

Sony making good on its promise to periodically update and add content to the system, Sony recently began delivering new 4K content to 84-inch XBR owners with the home server. Sony has really been with good quality appliances.
