Need help and suggestions for the "Best Bang for the Buck" Sub ($600 budget)

I'm looking for a Sub on a $600 maximum budget to go with my Marantz SR6005. I'm also in the process of upgrading my speakers to Definitive Technology PM 800 fronts, PM600 rears and a Pro Center 1000.

My room size is 13x19 and is fairly closed off. My room is also carpeted, so I'm not sure if a down fired or front fired Sub would be best.

I am a true novice and I'm looking for some much needed advice.

Hsu VTF2 mk4, its somewhat large, but you'll only need one. It'll be like a wrecking ball in that room.

Whether a Hsu sub or anybody else's manufactured sub, it's well discussed the benefit of having two subs and having two subs has everything to do with quality of sound.

One wants to have a minimum of two subs so as to smooth out the bass nulls in a room that are naturally cause by conflicting reflected sound waves running into each other and cancelling each other out in the process.

It may be too large...any suggestions for a medium sized sub that will work in my 13x19 room with 8' ceilings and carpet over a concrete floor?

I am not sure whether your room size is the one driving it (or) the space to fit in the sub that is making you say "it may be too large". Can you please explain ?

My apologies for not being crystal clear...it's more of a space problem than anything. I'm also not sure with the carpeted concrete floor if I should go with a down firing or front firing sub. I'll mostly be using if for 80% movies/TV and 20% music.

Downfiring subs have less THD and therefore are cleaner than front firing, on any floor.

For $600 budget, you can take a look at the following:

Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EX

Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Plus

HSU VTF-2 MK4

They will definitely fit the bill and all of them are down firing subs. Outlaw sometimes gives free shipping and another $50 reduction in price periodically.

Based on your above, I'd go with a single SVS, SB12-NSD for all the right reasons; nice frequency response curve and lot's of depth for the price.

Premier Acoustic PA 150 is a lot of sub for the money. Great with movies and music. It is not one of the major brand, but it is a great sub with all the output that you will need.
