Mystery blank stripe on TC-P55GT50

I just purchased a Panasonic plasma TC-P55GT50 and have it connected to a DirecTv Genie receiver.

I did not notice at first, but after getting used to the new gear, I find on the local ABC channel and on that channel only, I have a dead area on the picture. It extends about 1" from the right side about 6" up from the bottom. It is about 3/16" high. It is always there on this channel. It does not occur on any other signal or input. DVD is ok. Internet is ok. Only on the DirecTV channel for the local ABC.

Panasonic CSR says it can't be the TV since it only appears on one channel.

I switched out receiver boxes and I still have the same problem.

I have 2 other tvs in the house, one LED and one LCD. Neither have this problem.

What combination of the Panasonic Plasma and DirecTv could be causing this?

(Sorry for duplicate thread, but I didn't know where to post)

I agree with the Panny rep, it's only common sense. Your other sets have overscan hiding this, your Panny is in pixel matching mode making it visible. There is a setting to enable overscan on your Panasonic. In the aspect ratio menu set "HD Size" to 1 for overscan, 2 for pixel matching.

Thanks for the fast reply.

I changed the setting as you suggested. The stripe did go away, but only because 5% of the image is cut off and not displayed. I will lose everything around all sides of the picture.

I am still curious about the cause of the blank area. I suppose there is no way to really fix it.

This happens a lot with local TV stations, most noticably with local programming. We've all been watching TV for years with overscan. I have Directv along with an antenna and usually use the antenna input with size 1 for local programming to cover up the junk on the edges. I use size 2 for all other inputs.

depending on the channel or the content I'm watching on my GT50 I'll notice a "Dead area" on either the left or the right side of the screen. The weird thing is it will jump around on me if I cycle through the various aspects even while watching the same movie or show.

On Full it'll be dead on the left for an inch or so, if I set the aspect to H-fill or Just it fills up the dead space and then if I cycle back through to Full it will be slightly smaller dead space or will have moved to the right side

might be something to do with my HTPC or the receiver I've fed the HDMI through...not anything major but I just noticed and haven't looked into fixing it yet
