$1000 - $1600 for a 60" TV, Suggestions?

Hi there,

I am currently in the market for a 60" TV for my living room.
I am doing research but would also like the feedback of the members of this forum.

I am basically looking for a best bang-for-the-buck 60" TV.. LED or Plasma is not a big concern, though I would rather not have to deal with a Plasma burn in if possible.. (Plasma's tend to have a bad reputation).

One TV I have my eyes set on is the Sharp Aquos LC60LE640U 60" TV 120Hz LED TV. Currently priced at Amazon for roughly $1200.. Price seems reasonable and according to the reviews, it is a decent TV.

I do not need 3D, nor do I need a Smart TV as I already have a Mac Mini and an Apple TV as my Home Media..

With CES just being done, I am a bit concerned as to when is truly the best time to purchase a TV? I have heard many stories as to wait for CES to be done to see what is coming up, but that will still take months to see the effects of an event.
Some also say to wait until after the Super Bowl, but what is the point of waiting?
Is it worth it to wait since some of the 4K and 8K HDTV's will begin to be shipping, lowering price of 1080P tv's? I don't think it matters too much since I am restrained by my budget.

One main question is, is it worth waiting and holding out so I can purchase a higher end tv with the budget I have given CES has just ended?

I'm interested in exactly this too!.

I like plasma (screen burn that you mention is really not an issue worth worrying about anymore) and am still desperately trying to see if my first choice, a Panasonic 60GT50 or 60ST50 will work, but think I may need LED/LCD because of the relatively bright room I'm going to install this in.

So- I''m starting my LED/LCD research here. What I know so far is that Samsung has a good name in LED/LCD. Unfortunately, it seems you have to buy 3D / smart TV features (even if you don't use them) in order to get a better quality screens. And I think getting a quality 60" screen for your $1600 budget is going to be hard - but I'll be interested in seeing what the experts here contribute!

U'm reading that maybe Samsung's newest LCD aren't leaders... Heading better things about sony. And that the $100 to $1600 budget, maybe Visio... it gets good reviews from cnet, relative to the price point.

Have you seen anything in terms of new 2013 Entry level 60" TVs from either Samsung/LG/Sharp/Vizio/Sharp?

Each has their pros and cons (expectedly) so none of these brands are discernibly better than the other.

Samsung's entry level models in yourmprice range would be the 60EH6000 and the 60ES6100. The 6000 is a full array LED-LCD (about 4"-5" deep) and the 6100 is an edge lit slim LED-LCD with Smart Hub. Neither offer local dimming. I would assume thr EH6000 would offer marginally better PQ based on it's superior uniformity.

As far as I'm aware, LG's only 60" LCD would be the LM7200 series which is edge lit, smart, 3D, and features some sort of limited local dimming.

Sharp's offerings in would be the LE600U and the LE640U. Both of these sets are edge lit with a matted screen. The differences (as far as I know) is that the 640U offers smart features.

Vizios offering the 601i-A3 which has gotten some very good reviews on reputable sites such as CNET. In my opinion, itmis going to be a very similar set overall totmthe Sharp LE649U.

Question:
I have an option between two models at the moment:
Sharp - 60LE640U for $1200.00
Sony - KDL60EX645 for $1300.00

From what I understand, Sony is somewhat a "better", more reliable brand.
I have seen decent reviews between both but I would like to know your opinion.
