Theater Wire Help

I'm GCing our new home that will include a dedicated theater. My low voltage guy wants to take care of my theater for me but to be honest he is not as knowledgeable as he thinks he is.

he is telling me to look at strand count instead of the ga. of the wire and to us a sony BD player as he has never heard of oppo and more along those lines, anyway what type of inwall speaker wire would ya'll suggest along with sub and hdmi all need to be inwall rated and what types of conduit do I use to run the wires through?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I just used a standard in-wall 12Ga. speaker wire from monoprice. He probably hasn't heard of Oppo because it's not a main stream brand that you can buy at popular retail outlets.

Depends on the length of wire you are going to run.
Took this off of http://www.audioholics.com/education/cables/speaker-cable-gauge

Wire Gauge Distance (ft) Distance (ft)
18 AWG - 10 ft @ 8Ohm 5 ft @ 4Ohm
16 AWG - 20 ft @ 8Ohm 10 ft @ 4Ohm
14 AWG - 35 ft @ 8Ohm 18 ft @ 4Ohm
12 AWG - 60 ft @ 8Ohm 30 ft @ 4Ohm
10 AWG - 100 ft @ 8Ohm 50 ft @ 4Ohm

You shouldn't need to run it in any conduit, just run it and staple it or loose if need be.

Great, thanks. What about a conduit for the HDMI cable running from the equipment closet to the projector incase I need to swap that out anytime the future any suggestions? He's wanting to put something called a tech tube in the ceiling is going to charge me $350 for it. My longest run is about 40 feet for speaker wire. And he's trying to tell me to stick with 16 gauge As he says he's had trouble getting 12 gauge wire to fit into the components and or speakers Starting to think I'm just going to use this guy to run my cat5 and coax for directv and that's it.

You can use standard pvc pipe for conduit, the grey electrical type is what some guys use.

You should use at least 14Ga. for a 40' run.

Do you have binding posts or the clip in's on your speakers?

Your receiver shouldn't have a problem with the heavier speaker wire but banana plugs does make it easier.
