8300 8240HDC playback problem-Press Play, just says Press List endlessly

Playback problem with SA Explorer 8300 (actually 8240HDC) on Charter Cable.

Using list, I select a title to play. I press Play but instead of playing, it just says Press List.
I press list again. Press play again. Says press list. Endless loop.

Why does it do that?
Did it actually record on hard drive or not?
How can I prevent it from doing it?
How can I get to play title?

Any help appreciated

Man, it's been years since I used SARA. Have you checked the 8300/SARA AVS thread?

Is this a recent failure (of a previously working DVR), or a new setup? If the latter, I'd bet it's something you're doing wrong. Read through the 8300/SARA manual.

It's a periodic failure. The endless loop. Of Play. List, Play.
It was on previous same model DVR I'd turned back in.
I don't know what causes it.
But then it corrects itself.

Generally, I record both SD and HD to guarantee a good copy and add a 3rd backup on a DVD recorder with HD.

But I'd like to know why it happens and if there is anything I can do to play unique recordings.
