I have Dish-but they are the same, really. Cable from wall to Dish box, HDMI into TV-done. Turn TV on with TV remote, use Direct TV remote to select Menu, Remote, then chose your TV from the list coming from the Satellite box. My TV wasn't listed-so we tried 4 different Vizio Models that were listed, and on the fourth, when we pushed the off button, the TV turned off. It also worked for the TV volume and that's it.
I have a Vizio sound bar, so the next step would be to go back into the Dish/Direct TV menu, remotes, enable Aux, then go to the Aux section, and chose "sound bar/stereo", Vizio, select, and see if you can turn off/on the sound bar by pushing the Aux button on your satellite remote-if it turns off, turn it back on, and try adjust the volume-done.
Dish has an amazing menu for setting up the remotes now(The Hopper). It used to be that you had to push certain buttons, and enter a code, and repeat until you found the right now. There was another method that would scan all available codes until it found the right one. Now, it's all menu basef-so even a dummy like me could figure it out(but, I let the Dish guy do it, since I was renewing my contract and getting the Hopper because if the large sized DVR, HD on both TV's, and, 3D!!!!). I still have no watched 3D on the Dish Network......they do have video on demand 3D channels-but I already have or have seen the movies they have on the list.
Hope that helps.
OH....you will still need the TV remote to change inputs, turn on/off 3D, and to use the APP's.....the only thing the Satellite remote will do is turn the TV on/off, change the Satellite channels, and control the volume.
I will have to repeat the above procedure next weekend, when I install my new M601-60" in the living room(ordered from Walmart, Site to Store). Review shortly after........
