Hey, I just got a 55" 1d on Friday.
So far, it's had 2 firmware updates.

It arrived with v 1.02.x.xxxx
It updated to v 1.04.x.xxxx which brought a serious speed upgrade to the menu system.

This morning I saw it updated to 1.06.6.1136

The CTV store is missing from my apps and it reinstalled all the yahoo apps that I uninstalled.
I can't install or uninstall apps now. Has anyone else seen this?

Ok, that's two owners of the 70" model that do not have this issue, so I'm feeling better now about getting mine biggrin.gif

I picked up the 55" a few weeks back from Best Buy and mine has the same 1/4 darker pixel issue. It’s not too distracting and its not always noticeable, but like many others here, my biggest issue was the smart dimming. The corners would take too long to get bright when going from a dark screen to a light screen and it was way too noticeable. Also, when in a higher aspect than 16:9, where the black bars meet the four corners of the picture, there would be a slight dark shadow as well and not a clean black line all the way to the end. It looked just rounded enough that it drove me crazy, so the smart dimming is off for me. This picture shows the 1/4 pixel issue. Its my iphone, so sorry for the low quality.

Seems to me that this appears to be a common problem with the 50 and 55 inch models and occasionally, some 65" models. I really want to see a 70" first hand before pulling the final trigger. Guess I need to make a road trip this weekend.

My 55" set up is below along with another picture showing the dark edge. It doesn't really bother me but sometimes I do notice its there. Its not enought for me to return the set though, especially if its a product of the 3D layering the put on the screen. The 3D on this set is just too amazing and the PQ is great.

Please excuse the blue birds. I'm happily married so you tend to lose a few battles :-)

I have all the processing items off as of now.

Response from Vizio: "At this time we are not researching the possibility of 2D to 3D conversion on current models. That doesn’t rule out the possibility of future updates however."

I too can get the Sony 70" at the NEX for cheap but the off angle viewing and color issues scare me away from that set.

What is the NEX? They are offering the Sony 70" for $1400?

Navy Exchange. You need a valid military ID in order to buy anything there.

As Mascus already answered what the NEX is, I am going to elaborate on the price. The 60 inch R550A was there for 1550, but I had the price match Fry's Electronics and they sold it to me for 1400. The 70 inch will be a lot more expensive. The R550A is not back to its original price at Fry's.

My 70" M series that I purchased from Costco.com was delivered today. I was concerned because the box had a hole poked in the side that went through the box itself and through the Styrofoam packing material:eek: I took pics and noted the damage on the delivery receipt. When I opened the box you could clearly see where something penetrated about 18" and went between where the stand is stored and the back of the panel. It made a very small mark on the stand and an almost impossible to see mark on the back of the panel. Talk about luck. Now I am wondering whether to keep it or return it. The picture is great and I have no LB, or at least none that my old eyes can see. I contacted Costco via email to see if they would give me a discount to keep it, I doubt if they will but it is worth a try. I would hate to return it and get one that had issues like the well documented LB. I always have my 90 return option so I may just keep. I still have to load up my 70 e series and get that out of here. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the link.

"Smart TV: Vizio has made some tweaks to its smart TV platform, now named Vizio Internet Apps Plus. Most notably, you can now see more apps on the screen at once; the ribbon that appears at the bottom when you tap the "V" button now features seven apps instead of four. Tap it a second time and you now get the new "All Apps" view. The company has also added a swath of new apps to its "store" -- mostly local news stations, but most notably it now includes Crackle video, 3D video-streaming service 3DGo, and music-streaming app iHeartRadio."

I still don't have this. I assume its because I still have the 1.04 FM right? Has anyone used the 3DGo service yet? I'm very curious to see if the quality is as good as they claim.

Their 55" sample had "TV software/firmware version tested: V1.06.6.1136"

The 55" I exchanged already had the full screen app drawer. My 65" does not though frown.gif.

I'm concerned about this comment "The M-series is quite reflective, so you will see some reflection of yourself in a lit room, and of the lineup the only one with worse reflectivity was the Toshiba." Is it really that bad? What lineup are they referring to? I clicked on the compare button but a bunch of plasmas appeared that I would guess would me more reflective than this one. I'm I missing something?

Aloha all, been awhile since I posted, probably since I bought my ol Panni plasma back 7-8 yrs ago but needing some help please..
Just picked up this beautiful new M601 60" from costco and love it but having troubles getting the right settings for it.. I see settings for the 55" and the 70's, etc but nothing for the 60" If anyone has done this (Dr...) wink.gif I'd love to see it..

One other question, I never experienced this thing they call " Soap Opera Effect" until I watched my first movie on this set the other night... Kinda weird to me, the movie was suppose to be set back in the 40's and it made it seem really.. Shall I say "Off.. weird" I'm hoping the setting will change this.. Never saw this once using my old Panni plasma..

Thanks again everyone, this forum is the best, has helped me so many numerous times!!!

Here are the CNet Calibration settings if anyone is interested in testing them. They don't access the service pannel anymore, so you should be able to replicate the picture. These calibrations are for a dark room. I would say this is only for those that use smart dimming, but I am no expert. I would just think that if you turned it off, like I do, then the black levels would be affected and it would change the other settings.

Calibration notes: The new Calibrated mode provided the best picture settings without any adjustment, although it was a little too bright at its default settings (about 50 fL). Reducing the Backlight affected the greyscale performance resulting in a kickout in RGB response at 100RE that couldn't be corrected. Color didn't require much adjustment but the red push couldn't be controlled without adversely affecting the other colors.

---Picture settings menu---
Picture Mode: Calibrated or Calibrated Dark
Backlight: 62
Brightness: 51
Contrast: 82
Color: 49
Tint: 0
Sharpness: 0

---Size & Position submenu---

---Color Temperature submenu---
Colour temperature: Normal
Red Gain: 489
Green Gain: 460
Blue gain: 381
Red offset: 517
Green offset: 510
Blue offset: 515

--Advanced Picture submenu---
Auto Brightness Control: Off
Black Detail: Off
Smart Dimming: On
Smooth Motion Effect: Off
Reduce Signal Noise: Off
Reduce Block Noise: Off
Film Mode: Auto

Plasmas are naturally better with motion so they don't need any fancy smoothing settings(although most new models come with them), with the Vizio all you need to do is turn the "smooth motion" setting off and you won't see soap opera effect.smile.gif

Cnet's comparison models are in the box between "Picture Quality" and "Black Level" on the 2nd page of their review. The screen is semi-gloss, not like a pane of glass or anything.

Happened on both my 55 and my 60 after the registration.

Turned on, and it turn off.

Turned on again and both have been fine for weeks. I think it's some sort of shut off while maybe the TV save the info into memory?

It hasn't bothered me.

Thanks. Added it to the spreadsheet for everyone.

Interesting that X5" models have the most responses.

They we're the first size released ... was for sale for a bit before the larger and smaller sizes cam out.

Plus those not looking for big stay with about a 55" TV anyway.

During the first set up process yes. Then disconnected everything, and still won't power on

These do not apply to the 60/70/80" models!!!

Notice the Color Temperature settings ... they are the huge numbers like 400 / 500 etc.

The 60/70/80 Do not go that high ... the settings for that line of M-Series only goes from 0 - 255

So the Cnet settings would not apply for those larger line of TV's
