I tend to agree, knowing what I know now. If you have a Roku, AppleTV, PS3, XBox or even a chromestick, you probably have a better apps offering than what you currently get with VIA.

Some of your settings actually surprised me, especially the bump in the red gain. Even using the CNET settings I feel that there is a little to much red at times, I would have thought that bumping the R/G would have made it worse. I might plug your results in tonight to compare. I wish someone with a 50", 55" or 65" had the fancy equipment to really dial it in like ursa99 did for the 60, 70, 80 models.

Is the WOW disc better then the ones I said I already have? I've considered buying it but since I already have 3 calibration disc I just could pull the trigger.

Also, and I know this will be blasphemy to many here but, since I'm a Best Buy Silver Reward Zone member and I bought my TV at BB I can get 1 free ISF calibration from Geek Squad. I know I'm probably wasting my key strokes but, is it worth it. Has anyone ever seen or had a TV calibrated by Best Buy? In my local BB they have 2 displays set up, on at factory defaults and the other one says it was calibrated by there ISF geek squad guy and it did look really good, especially compared to the factory default one. Since it is free, I'm tempted to give it a shot and if I don't like the results I can always change them. Just wondering if anyone here has any kind of experience with BB ISF calibration?

I actually lowered the red gain. Default red gain on the normal temp setting is I want to say around like 550ish. All the tests and whatnot matched up and it looks great to me. Give it a shot and if you don't like it, you can always switch back.

As for the BB ISF calibration, like you said man, it's free. I'd definitely take them up on the offer.

Is the 32" version of this set good for gamming? I am talking PC, XBOX

I am thinking about buying 2 of them

How is your setup? Components>AVR>TV or Into Tv> AVR? Also, is there a standby bypass feature; where I can just use the tv speakers instead of the AVR. As I don't need surround sound all the time. From what I know, the Yht-399ubl is the newer version of the 397(good reviews). I may check out the 397 since it's available in stores.

Don't do that. Just because Vizio said to do it that way-doesn't mean the other method won't work. If you spent all that time calibrating your inputs, you don't have to reset them. Just click "service check", and wait. I've done that, and not turned off the set, and it eventually updated overnight. It may take a day, a week, or??
But, there isn't anything earth shattering in the upgraded firmware versions yet. We are all waiting for the "wi-fi" remote upgrade. When that hits-trust me, you will know about it.

I pushed the Service Check button on my M501d recently, and it turned into an M601d......go figure wink.gif
j/k
I bought another M601d.

So, I just tried playing a movie off a USB drive and every picture mode besides Game has smooth motion built in. The option to turn it off is completely gone from the advanced picture settings menu. Is using the Game setting really my only option?

Also, the TV apparently doesn't recognize .srt files for subtitles. Is there a menu I'm missing somewhere that will allow me to turn then on? I couldn't find a subtitles menu anywhere.

So, just to be clear, you can completely turn off motion smoothing while watching 3D if you so choose? I abhor soap opera effect of any amount, and I at least want to have the option to disable any such options.

EDIT: first sentence is a question.

Not that I am aware of. I think the only way would be to do it manually (lower the AVR volume and raise the TV volume). But I could be wrong I'll play with it a bit tonight.

Yes it is...and fairly cheap too. I found mine on Amazon for $300 (shipped) used in excellent condition. Original packaging.

I've been working my way through all the apps, and there seems to be a lot of duplication when it comes to pay-per-view movie apps, and a number of apps where it is not clear exactly what they do. Other than the usuals, i.e YouTube, VUDU, HULU, Facebook, Amazon, etc. are there any other worthwhile ones that I should check out.
Does anyone know how to get into the service menu for the M series? I'd love to see if there is a blue only mode that can be activated in the service menu.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a Revision 3 app on there. If you're into tech stuff, check them out.

I picked up a M651 today and it has a dead green pixel

I'm bummed and don't want to pack it up and go back to costco tomorrow.

The screen is pretty much as reflective as everyone said, its like a black mirror. I'm going to mount it tonight and see if I can get past the dead pixel and see how the TV performs. So far the viewing angles are better than my 60" ES7100 so I'm quite pleased with that.

Anyone else had dead pixel problems?

Having come from a Samsung DLP set that had so many dead pixels that it looked like a star field, I would pack it up and return it. My Samsung started with one dead pixel, and by the time I was done, it was only good for watching space movies.

I use Amazon VOD mainly for their "prime" titles and Netflix for older movies and TV shows. There's a lot of overlap between the two services but I feel there are enough titles that are available on just one of them so I feel it's worthwhile to pay for both since their prices are very reasonable especially Amazon if you order a lot from them. I use VUDU for new releases since it offers the best streaming quality (HDX) in both video and audio. Amazon has a large selection when you include their rental and own selections so if you have an inkling to watch a certain title it'll probably be available. Through those 3 services you pretty much have all your bases covered. I agree with waylo that some of the shows on the revision 3 app are interesting.

So to answer your question if there are any other worthwhile pay-per-view apps I would say no. If you're a heavy TV show watcher perhaps HULU would be more cost effective than Amazon.

VIZIO M321i-A2 32" 1080p 120Hz Razor LED help!

Bought this TV for Gaming and HD movies. Have been happy with it so far. However am confused about the true specs of the TV. The info button (on screen) shows that 1080P is being received etc. But when I go into system information (TV menu) it shows the TV resolutions to be 720x480 and the refresh rate at 60hz. Vizio support does not answer resolution discrepancy question directly no matter how I ask it. This TV had all the box material labeled as 1080P 120 Hz and was purchased from Walmart. It does display full screen from Xbox and Play station as well as over the air HD and from bluray movies and the info screen shows 1080P. Can someone enlighten me as to what I really have?

I''m picking up the 65" next week. Does the picture wash out too much viewing from the sides? If you look back through the past 2 pages, you will see a several little tests to see if the 65" is an ips panel or not. Would really like to know. Thx
And yes, exchange it. It will only get worse.

Thanks for the suggestions!

tongue.gifHOW TO GET PS3 TO OUTPUT DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 over HDMI?

I need help on setting up the PS3 so that the Bose receiver gets Dolby 5.1 rather than currently PCM 2.0 only.
The PS3 is connected to HDMI1, then use Optical output from TV to the Bose receiver. I already setup the Vizio audio to Bitstream.
The u-verse box connected to HDMI2, I can get Dolby 5.1.

On PS3, the audio is set to Manual and I already selected the Dolby options. What did I miss?

EDIT: the problem dissapeared after I changed the BluRay disc. All good now smile.gif

Thank you.

So, I am thinking the Bentley sound bar mounts would work best for me. But can't seem to verify that these would work with a 60" out from the top. Anyone have any luck with these?

During some 3D movies I get a sort of shuttered black bar across both sides of the screen. They move around from scene to scene, which leads me to believe it's not a television problem, but I'm simply not sure. Any forum or Google searches just seem to bring up grumbling complaints over horizontal bars or discussions over floating windows. Does anyone know what causes this? Is a blu-ray player problem? A transfer issue? Or a television issue? It's pretty jarring on the movies it affects. Thanks in advance!!!

Update: I figured out that the problem was, indeed, floating windows. As it turns out, I've been watching 3D movies from an inflatable bed while waiting for my new furniture to come in, and the angle was allowing my other eye to see the bands created with the floating windows effect. When I brought furniture in, the angle shifted and they went away.

That being said, I can still see edge anomalies that are annoying with that tech, and there's still an aspect of black bar that I can see. I certainly understand what they were trying to do, but I prefer the lack of 3D along the edge on occasion over that weird bar effect. Regardless, thanks for all your help!

Hey, I had the same problem. Call Vizio and they will come and replace your TV with brand new one. I just got mine replaced. A 50 inch.

I am having a problem with the analog audio out on M50. The audio received from those ports is too low and of very bad quality. I confirmed this by plugging my speakers directly into my DIRECTV receiver and they sounded 1000 times better. The analog out audio ports are giving sounding voice and missing various sound levels. Anyone know how I can fix this?

If you have a receiver, why are you using those ports? Composite audio is going to sound terrible in almost ever scenario so I would suggest you try to avoid using it if you can. Give us some more info on your setup. There may be a better way to do it.

Have some questions about the VIZIO M321i-A2. Been thinking about getting rid of my old 27" Toshiba tube TV (in the bedroom) for a while now and the gear attached. The price on this TV has been coming down at Costco lately and is currently at $349 with no charge for s/h. Another $29 if you want to toss another 3 years onto the existing 2 year warranty.

This uses a WiFi remote according to the specs. Can I use the Logitech Harmony remotes (have two models the One and the 688) to control this TV? I know these are IR and if this TV is WiFi I'm wondering how people are doing this as I thought I spotted something in this long thread.

Never been a Vizio fan and tend to be pretty picky about my tech gear. This one seems to stand out and for this price with the amount of supported colors, WiFi, apps and so on it looks like a deal. Anyone own this TV have an opinion?

I see it has RCA and optical for audio out. What's the best/simplest way to get a couple of smaller speakers attached for external sound as you'd need power to drive the speakers.
I can answer your first question. The TV's remote actually uses IR right now, though there are plans to patch in the ability for it to send signal via WiFi. Many in this thread have already ditched the Vizio remote and gone with a Harmony, so that is no issue at all.

I don't personally own the 32" but if it's of the same quality of the 50", it's definitely a great choice. The television is absolutely gorgeous. Here is a link to a review I found that someone did of the 32" version.

I bought M601d-a3 (hope this is the right thread) from costco and I am not sure if I have the right version of firmware. I had one of the dumbest chat with live support guys from Vizio, where the guy said he cant say anything about what firmware version that I have or when it will get updated.

He says 3d go will be available with new firmware, but no way to update the firmware manually. He also refused to give me what is the latest firmware number.
What I have is 1.05.1.0000

Can any of you give me what is the correct firmware version that I should expect?

I contacted them asking for why 3d go is not there in the tv even though it shows up in this chart http://store.vizio.com/via-chart

Sanjath : This is horrible, you guys dont even have what is the latest firmware version at hand
Sanjath: Which is not acceptable
Sanjath: for a tech support
(Vizio Rep) Jackson: I apologize for not having information to give to you, but this is because the information has not been released yet.
What kind of tech support is that?

You have the same firmware I have on my M601d-and mine has been that way for 2 weeks. No 3DGo, or Mgo. It will come out, eventually-but you are not really missing anything.
I have it on my M501d, which has the latest firmware, and I don't use those apps.
There really is nothing you can do to "rush" the firmware upgrade-it just happens when it happens. The latest would appear to be 1.06, which will make the app's full screen, and include more.....just be patient and wait.

I dont want to plugin my speakers into the directv receiver because that way I cannot control the volume through the remote. I have plugged in my computer speakers(no remote) to the tv via analog audio. And I have set the analog audio out in the tv's settings to variable and turned off tv speakers. THis way I can use the tv's remote to control the volume.
