I'm getting the same slow response with youtube. However the amazon instant video app works fine. So its not the network. Could be the app itself on the tv.

Another question - Would the 2 year warranty through Best Buy for $100 be worth it? I know some people have problems with Best Buy but I'm a silver member there and they have always been nothing but fantastic with me, especially regarding returns.

I got my extended warranty direct through Vizio. I think it will be cheaper for you. Mine was $80 for two additional years.

Edit: Also, the soundbar is connected via optical.

I have the M501 and Vizio soundbar with optical connection and don't have that issue. Try changing inputs with the speakers turned off; I don't remember if the setting is attached to the input.
The only thing I hate about turning the internal speakers off is when you change inputs for the FIRST time after turning the TV ON, you get an unnecessary message saying that the "Internal speakers are OFF".

Before I contact Vizio support, I need help making sure I properly describe the issue I *just* started noticing, after a month of use, on my M401i-A3 set.

Just now in the past two days, I'll be watching something (any input, TiVo, NMT, antenna) and every so often - sometimes once every 20 seconds and other times maybe once per 10 minutes, just in the bottom, left quadrant I'll see a flicker of basically what I perceive to be complete loss of luminosity to where it essentially looks black. When I stare only at the top, right part of the screen, it still only appears to be happening in the bottom, left portion of the screen. Even when I pause playback to a still frame and wait, it will eventually do the same thing. It does seem to take a while of watching TV, before I start noticing it. Since it happens on all of the inputs, it would surely seem to be the set itself and not my devices and/or cables. Does this sound like a common issue?

I've had my 50" for a week today. While I'm really loving the picture, I'm constantly looking for, I'm not sure what? Is it banding or DSE that makes the screen not seem to be constant throughout.

Heres a iPhone pic I just took of my screen with a 75% grey pattern on the screen. Is this a normal looking screen? What pattern or image should I display that will better highlight whether I have a bad panel or not?

I think I might have made the mistake of researching this TV too much and noticing things on the pic I never would have just because I've read about them.

It looks much worse in the pic then it does on the screen to be honest.

I have the exact same set-up, and do not have that problem. I have the TV Speakers set to OFF-and they stay off. Even when I change inputs(but I had them turned off on the other input as well).
Not sure why your set is not saving your setting. Which model do you have?
What are your settings in the Set-up, Audio tab menu?
I have 2 M601d(had an M501d also), and both are connected via optical to the sound-bar, with the TV speakers off.......

Sounds (looks) like a bad LED to me. Not a common problem (that I know of) but I'm sure it happens.

Looks like you have some banding in the center of the screen, which would cause DSE. If it bothers you I would replace the set. because once you're seen it, It won't be unseen. As you mention, that's kind of the paradox with these kind of forums.

I read forums for years before I finally got a HDTV. Reading about clouding, flashlighting, SOE, DSE, banding etc. on HDTVs made it terrifying to finally pull the trigger on an expensive flatscreen. I just KNEW I was going to get a panel with everything that could possibly go wrong, even though my 16 year old Sony CRT had everything I just mentioned and more (the picture was so tilted the Hobbits walked downhill throughout the entire LotR trilogy). When CRTs were the prevailing tech nobody had words and the internet for all that yet. Now that I know what to label all that I'm constantly looking for flashlighting and anything else that could possibly go wrong, instead of just enjoying the show. But also, now that I know what to look for, it would be impossible to ignore glaring issues.

And really, the whole point of HD is accuracy and fidelity. Here in the space age we shouldn't settle for anything less.

I created a guest network, put the Vizio on the guest network and my problems went away. For whatever reason, the Directv Whole Home was causing issues and by removing the Vizio off that local network so that it could no longer see the Whole Home, the issue is now gone.

Had the exact same problem and did the exact same thing. Didn't investigate far enough to find out it was the DTV Whole-Home DVR that was the key issue, but the isolated guest LAN fixed it for me as well.

Hi everyone, I have the M501d and have problems with the top left corner. There is a white spot there and also I have issues with horizontal banding and severe sherch lighting. All on the right side. There is an issue with trying to get pics from my laptop to the TV. The TV sees my server and all folders on the laptop but nothing in the folders. Vizio was no help because they do not support Mac. If I had a PC they could go into it and check settings. My Mac is set up properly, had a Sony hooked up until it died and no problems getting files from the Mac. Any ideas? By the way, best buy is sending a new TV this week.

You know how when the TV detects 3D content it automaticlly gets a little brighter, well mine has stopped doing that for some reason. I have to hit the 3D button and select 3D for it to get brighter. Then when I go back to 2D it doesn't automaticlly go back, I have to again push the 3D button and chose 2D. Things is it just started doing this yesterday and I can't figure out how to get it to switch automaticlly again. I've enven tried a full factory reset on the TV. Anyone have any clues of how to fix this?

It's not a big deal but I actually liked it getting a little brighter to compensate for the 3D glasses but for some reason it has stopped doing that.

See my post above. I have exactly the same problem.

I just bought the 55" model from Costco and trying to set it up. When I plug in the tv to the wall outlet and use an hdmi cable to the cable box, the tv acts like it comes on but I get no video. I get sound from the cable box though. Is the light on the TV suppose to stay on all the time while it is on?? On the set I have now, the light will immediately go off a second or two after the tv is turned on. Looks to me like the TV is broke and will I have to take back to Costco.

Maybe I am overlooking something but I have done this many times before with no problems??

So far I've had 2 Samsungs and a Sony, all defectives. This Vizio was actually my first choice but my GF talked me out of it.

I was hoping you guys could answer a few questions. I've read a few pages but forgive me for not reading all 114 of them front to back.

I realize quality can differ from panel set to set even of the same model #, but does this set have any clouding ? I read in a review, I think it was cnet, that it has blooming? Also how is gaming on this TV ? Thanks love you

light only stays on for a second or two after startup. try hitting the input button until you cycle to the hdmi with your Cable box. there are 4 hdmi inputs, you need to tell the tv which one you want to watch. probably not broken.

The TV defaults to the RF Coax input because as we all know 99.9% of us that buy a hi-def TV us the antenna input and watch 3 channels eek.gifbiggrin.gif
use the "Input" button on the remote & set for the correct HDMI input

so I think i have finally decided on a model after some back and forth trying to decide between the 55 and the 60. Im going with the 60. Also guess im getting this Onkyo surround system Also guess im getting this Onkyo surround system. I'm not really that informed on home theater systems, really only know my max price point of $300 leaves me to looking for a home theater in a box solution, and this seems to be one of the best regarded. Will also be getting a new tv stand, tv wall mount from monoprice, and some speaker mounts to go along with everything. Not sure why im nervous about pulling the trigger on all this, guess its the total pricetag being at $2k
post #3409 of 8756
The only thing is, even with no source connected to the TV I cannot get any picture. I am not able to see what input I am on or even get to the setup/menu. I have tried using a receiver/blu-ray player to see if I get a picture as well, and that doesn't work as well. To be on the 'safe side', going to replace this TV with another one today. Hopefully it was a bad set and will find out tonight if that was the case.

I had this with my first set and returned it to Costco. Picked up a new one which has been great.

Did you try unplugging the set, and plugging back in again? This happened to me a few days after I bought the TV. I did that, and all has been well ever since. Like your computer, sometimes it gets confused and needs to be re-booted.

Do you use the vizio TV remote to change the volume on your soundbar or the provided sound bar remote? I think the remote actually turns on the speakers. This being built in to the firmware. I might give them a call and see whats up.

I had a Samsung 46UND7000 before this and that tv I ended up getting rid of because of the clouding. It really bugged me and especially since I paid so much for the tv (didn't know what clouding was until after I bought it unfortunately). Anyways, I bought the 50" Vizio M-Series at my local best buy as soon as they got one in. I have to say that I'm surprised that I have NO clouding at all. I mean at all! There IS flashlighting though that can be seen but only when there's a dark screen with something white in the middle. It really isn't that bad. This tv also keeps up very well with my gaming needs. Battlefield 3 is very fast, fluid, and responsive. make sure you're in "game Mode" to eliminate as much lag input as possible. And I also popped in The Last of Us and it's been GORGEOUS on this tv. The black levels really surprise me on this tv since it's not a plasma. I'd say go for it cause you won't be disappointed!

I have owned Onkyo receivers, both music and for home theater, for many years, and consider them to be exceptional quality for the money. I cannot speak to the quality of their speakers since I have never owned them, but I would expect them to be satisfactory, and would definitely consider a HTIB from Onkyo if I were in the market for one.

Picked up my 60" from Costco a few days ago. Love it! Only issue Ive had is random hang ups/crashes when using Youtube (once had to unplug the set to get it to work as a result). Are the apps more stable after system updates arrive?

QUESTION: When I turn the tv off with my Direct TV remote the screen says NO SIGNAL. How would I get the no signal notification to go away so the screen is black?
Have you programmed your Directv remote to control the television? If you have not, do that first. Otherwise, make sure you are aiming at the bottom left hand corner of the TV when you turn everything off. What you are seeing is the Directv receiver being turned off but not the TV. The remote response for the TV is much more narrow than the receiver, so the receiver is getting turned off but the TV is not.

Thanks. Is the backlight distracting or barely there ? On the Sony I had the dark scenes were unwatchable because the flash lighting / clouding were so bad. I will most likely but this TV tonight or tomorrow.

I install cable / Internet so I've seen thousands of tvs in action. Vizio PQ has always impressed me. Unfortunately I can't see them in a dimly lit room to check for flashlighting.

Is the network remote function active now ? I've heard bad things about the IR. Is it the remotes fault or the IR sensor on the TV ? If you use a universal does it work better ? Thanks
post #3419 of 8756
Pretty sure it's the IR sensor on the TV being in an absolutely terrible position. The WiFi fix isn't out yet, and yes, a universal remote will solve the problem.

Got the M801D here now....

(couldnt get my old acct reset..technik...lft comcr**)

This beast replaced my Mits DLP 62-628 (the 1080P trickery box) and am floored by the picture. Have bluray (sony BDP-S720) hooked up (via split mode since my denon 3808 wont pass the 3D signal through) and looks amazing in non-3D and absolutely picturesque in 3D. Have performed 2D=>3D conversion on BD, and its eh.....definitely adds some depth on the real Star Wars 1 (aka A New Hope).

FIOS TV - HDMI - 3D is ehh on there since it splits the picture into the dual frames, but HD looks sweet. ESPN 3D, but I believe it's going bye bye soon.

XBOX 360 HDMI - No problems. COD in 3D.......crazy!

HTPC - hooked up @ 1080p 60hz via HDMI

Have only seen one post on calibrating the 80" monster and am trying that along with some DVE calibrations I am doing. We'll see.

Does anyone know how to get those 3D messages from popping up when 3D content is detected....contacted support, but they said it wasn't possible. Any body know of a maint menu thats is accessible...might be in there. Any ideas would be helpful.

Also...just minor sync issues.....but only lasts briefly (1-2 secs) and has only occurred when converting 2D=>3D

2 Days in and diggn the monster. Not taken this back anytime soon. Let the burn in period begin......
