Sorry not to address your question, but as a fellow Dish subscriber I have a question for you. Can you put on NatGeo and take a look at the top-left of the feed for a small, black box at the top of the screen? I noticed it watching some show about guys in the Alaska wilderness and thought I had a problem with the TV, but after carefully noting where the box was and surfing channels, this only appeared on NatGeo.

Just curious if you see this as well smile.gif

STarting to calibrate with my Spyder Datacolor.

Also does anyone recall the settings for the 70" TV that they used? The Spyder corrects for brightness, contrast, tint, and color but doesn't adjust sharpness or the fine-tune settings that are available.

Congrats! I am using the settings posted here.

If you can spare the change, get yourself a Harmony Smart Control and you'll never look back.

Also, why did they do away with the Bluetooth remote like I have on my XVT553 and 554. They work great. Especially when they locate the IR sensor on the bottom of the bezel on the new sets.

I will take a look in a bit.

Do you happen to have those "sparkles" on the screen? I'm actually wondering if my HDMI cable is bad because I jammed it between the wall and the TV with my last set and it got a little loose in the head. I need to "angle" it and jiggle it to get a picture to come through at all. Im' hesitant to replace the cvable because it's over a TV and I know I will have issues snaking a new HDMI cable from my receiver frown.gif

I'm at work but can check for the sparkles later this evening...haven't noticed anything like that from viewing distance but I also haven't looked for anything like that up close. I'll get back to you.

I'll see if I can get a short video of it as well. Still haven't checked natgeo, but I wil!!

What channel is it? I don't think I get NatGeo.

I can't get ARC to work. It shows up in the CEC menu and I have my theater enabled but I just can't get it to output any sound. If I shut off my receiver, it automatically plays through the TV speakers.

Costco financial results have been more then excellent over teh years, and prices still cheaper than elsewhere. Now a piece of information for you, it is not a costco policy but a manufacturer policy. When costco accepts to return a product costco iteslf returns it to the manufacturer for a full refund. This is why even with all the returns they have , you never see clearance products at costco. Vizio and other manufacturers have to put up with this policy if they want to sell at costco, and if they do it is because it is financially interesting for them, no need to be sorry for them. lastly, i asked costco manager if i could have and try the remote of the E701 and M701 on display at the store, the answer was no, if you want to play with them, buy them and return what you don't like, that's what I did.

at this point, Costo made a profit by selling a E701 and did not have any loss other than their time on the other TVs because they returned them to Vizio. I am not sure why you are talking about a 90 days loaner! As for vizio, they should be smarter and not sell 2013 models that miss features of 2012 models (remote keyboard, skype... )..and by the way they also sold a TV in the process which I would not have acquired is I could not compare them.

Does the manufacturer refund Costco the cost of the employees that are necessary to process the return, the internal systems needed to track the return, etc.

But hey if it gives us the chance to compare TVs side by side then it's all good.

You may need to turn on arc on your avr. Look in your avr's manual on how to adjust the settings.

Yeah, this i sthe manual here, and I can't figure it out.

http://www.manualowl.com/m/Onkyo/HT-RC270/Manual/220652?page=90

As far as I can tell, it is on and should be working. I enabled it and put the input to TV/CD as it says, but no sound comes through.
Also, your avr should be connected to hdmi port 1 on your tv, as that is the arc port. Which should connect to arc port on your avr. Both devices need to be on same arc for this to work.

To save me from having to read even more pages of this thread, can someone tell me whether the issues with the remote and screen uniformity due to back-lighting have been fixed? I'm looking at getting the 55" or the Panasonic S64 at Sam's soon. I have a Samsung LED now that is driving me crazy with the backlight bleeding and flashlighting.
You also noted a bad hdmi cable. That could be a problem. Also is it a 1.3 or 1.4 hdmi? Even if that's not a problem you might as well replace it now before it gets worse later. I put 2 hdmi cables(plan on adding a 3rd) in my walls for the "just in case situations", because my soundbar has only 3 hdmi inputs.

For the 239476th time, no, the remote has not been fixed yet. No one has a clue when the WiFi update will come out. The only thing that Vizio has said is "summer".

As for bleed and uniformity, there is no "issue" there that needs to be worked out. It's an edge lit LED panel. It's just a roll of the dice as to the quality of panel you will get. You could get one that is super close to being perfect, or get a dud with tons of bleed.

1. Remote is finicky, yet it doesn't bother me to the point I want to throw it/break it. Maybe it's because I have it wall-mounted, so line of site to tv is direct. I also invested in a harmony smart control, just need the time to set that up.

2. As far as screen uniformity and lightbleed, if you read some of my posts on the last few pages, I offered up some pics and my thoughts regarding these issues. All good, by the way. If you do buy one, pick it up yourself if possible.

What waylo88 said ^^^. Think that applies to all tvs. You may or may not get a good set.

Yeah, It is the ARC port on the Vizio ("Cable" is how it is labeled). I assume the port on the Receiver is just the HDMI Out port, it couldn't really be anything else....

Maybe it is the POS cable

Yeah I was wondering this, but it's working for 3d and everything else. The cable has been in the wall though for .... I want to say over six years.

Well, NFL has arrived, and it sure doesn't look as good as my old Plasma. For some reason live camera shots of NFL has a weird motion to it. YET, the replays are perfect. Otherwise, rest of the TV viewing (HGTV, Nick Jr, CNN, Local etc) is perfectly fine.

Has anyone else noticed weird motion on sports? Is there anything you've tried successfully to help correct this? Could it just be how sports still looks on LCD vs Plasma?

I'm using the 60"+ settings suggested earlier in the thread. So that would be Game mode, nothing on expect for Local Dimming.

According to your manual, arc should work. Looks like a process of elimination is in order. And hdmi cable is first.

That is very strange because hdmi 1.3 should not be able to process 3d pass through. So I'm guessing your cables are 1.4. I'm not much help as I don't have your avr to reference to. But concept should be mostly the same.

You might want to turn Smooth Motion Effect to ON during sports events.

It has been shown in this thread that the smooth motion settings do not work in game mode. You have to select any other mode, set Ursa's settings, and turn the smooth motion effect on to your liking. I only do this for football and hockey since it creates the soap opera effect on normal programming.

Oh boy. Not what I want to hear about football on this set! I just ordered the 70 inch from Costco.com just today, and am an NFL die hard. I currently own a two year old Panasonic VT 65 inch plasma and football on this set is STUNNING. Is it motion blur that you're dealing with? I'm hoping it's not an issue across all sets. The motion blur would kill it for me, as I watch FAR more sports than I ever watch movies.

Cool. I'll setup a second option and turn that on and see if it helps. Easy enough smile.gif
