I really all depends on them and if they have an eye for quality or not.

Just an FYI though the E-Series does not have front facing speakers ... they are the same as the M-Series (they are down firing from the bottom of the bezel on each side).

M gives em 3D ... but with parents who knows if thats important. (I think that size still has 3D not sure)

And ultimately E series will be cheaper and give you an extra 3" in size .... not much but it's something ... and they may not even be able to tell the difference (like I said if your parents don;t have an eye for this kinda stuff then it may not matter really).

Only you know them the best ... so really only you know what the better option is.

But great option I guess for those with money to burn ..... but really if you can afford a $500 bluray player why would you buy a Vizio? (I would be all about a sick at Sony or Elite 70" Rear-Array TV if I had that kinda money). biggrin.gif

I have an oppo bdp-93, and it's worth every cent I paid for it (and I'm sure the bdp-103 is too). Because it's not just a blu-ray player, it's a universal disc player: CD, HDCD, DVD, Blu-ray, SACD, and DVD-A. It plays back streaming audio including hi-res multi-channel lossless flac files, and up-converts streaming video to 1080p (which does look spectacular, btw...). And it's built to last with great customer support. By no means do I have money to burn, but I wanted quality audio playback of any disc or file format in my library. The fact that the oppo played blu-rays was just a future bonus when I bought it because I didn't even have an HDTV.

Personally, audio will always be more important to me than video, and I would rather invest in high-end audio devices than an Elite 70" or expensive Sony display, because differences in audio quality effect me more. A little light-bleed or blacks that aren't perfect I can live with, but the slightest bit of distortion in the sound and I'm off the couch trying to fix it. So for me the Vizio M is the perfect ratio of price/performance.

I haven't seen a choppy or blurred picture on ESPN. In fact ESPN has the one of the best pictures with no motion artifacts. I have smooth motion off and am using game mode. I have Directv and have never seen this problem. Could be your programming source?

I have tried smooth motion and the picture looks unnatural to me.

I'm with direct as well, genie is on the Vizio, but routed thru my pioneer receiver..

Ursas "game" setting calibration is great, but am just curious if anyone uses smooth motion. I haven't had it long enough to go thru channels and really compare, so I was just curious

Haven't bought a Bluray in about 6 years .... bought my first Sony Bluray for $300 bucks, then I bought the Dark Knight and something else .... that was the last time I ever bought a bluray. biggrin.gif
Can't back you up on the 3D upconvert stuff .... it does not look good at all .... and I had the Sharp before I had the Vizio (that was a horrible mistake all the way around)

Just can't figure out why so many seem to care about the 2D to 3D upconverting stuff ... I Does Not Look Good At All !!! (or maybe the times I saw it and used it I was doing something wrong)

I wish the 3D on a actual 3D movie had WAY more depth so with that being the case the 2D to 3D to me looks like junk.

I would like to see if some of these other players etc. etc. or the newer TV's do a better job at this though ... maybe I'm missing something.

The Netflix Super HD with 5.1 audio is actually very good. I have a Sony BD player that does conversion but I have never tried it out, guess I should do that.

Hello everyone, I'm new here and am having some issues with my M series 55" tv and was wondering if any of you have experienced anything similar. Recently I have began noticing a dark spot in the center of my TV that runs all the way down the screen from top to bottom that is about 6" wide. It almost seems like the edge lighting of that particular section of the tv just isn't as bright as the rest of it. This is extremely noticeable when watching light backgrounds like grass (sports), and sky. It only becomes visible when the screen pans either right to left or vice versa. It is extremely noticeable when watching football as the screen pans to follow the ball. I have called Vizio tech support and actually had my first unit swapped out and deemed defective. The second tv I received has the same problem and I am now told by them that it's a "personal preference" issue and there's nothing wrong with the tv despite it having the same exact issue as before. Any help from the community is greatly appreciated.
What you're experiencing is known as DSE (Dirty Screen Effect). It's a known issue with LED televisions, some just have it worse than others. If yours is truly bothersome, just exchange it for another until you get something you're happy with.
Thanks for your help Waylo, I'm fairly new to the LED technology as my old tv was LCD so I've never heard of that problem before. Should I keep pressing vizio on the issue in hopes of getting a new unit swapped again?
Assuming you recently purchased it (15-30 days depending on the store), I'd go through the place of purchase rather than Vizio.
I have read some people have banding issues on occasion .... if it's a solid like bar from top to bottom then it may be a banding issue and not so much DSE (that seems to not be perfect lines whereas banding is straight lines).

Here is what banding looks like ........

And this is about what a TV with DSE (Dirty Screen Effect) looks like .............

These of course are on the extreme side but it's to give an idea of what to look for and what it may be.
Thanks falconman, it's definitely banding. That's exactly how it looks. Any remedy for it other than just getting a new tv? I bought mine from best buy and am out of the return period unfortunately.
That issue just cropped up for me recently when I tried to add it the "Play to TV" function. I'm wondering if removing it will fix it.

The carrier picked up my m70 today for a return to Costco online. After seeing how they handle products it does not surprise me that people have problems. I was careful to put the panel back in the box with all of the packing just like it was when I received it. With the packing it had to weigh over 100lbs. My wife and I struggled a little just to get it into the garage. Ceva is the carrier that Costco used and they were also the ones that delivered it originally when it arrived with obvious damage to the box. Anyway there were two guys, neither of which spoke good English. One guy was not tall but he was stocky the other guy didn't look like he could lift 30lbs. The stocky one told the smaller one to get a cart, but then he decided he would do it on his own. He flipped the box on end and threw it over his shoulder and carried it to the truck. Pretty much shoved it in and off they went. I have a replacement coming and it will also be delivered by Ceva, if it is messed up it goes back. I would have picked one up at my local Costco but they still do not stock the Vizio 70.

That sucks man, sorry to hear. :-(

Ceva was the carrier for Amazon 5 years ago when I got my Samsung ln52a750, and the driver was completely useless, and rushed the whole process after I asked him to just wait 5 minutes to get the mount on, and make sure it works.. Also to take the cardboard that he was supposed to do.. But nope, he rushed off after dragging the dirty box across my carpet leaving a rather nice stain for me to steam clean.. Then I open the box to find a golf ball sized hole right thru my screen..

I was ( to say the least) extremely pissed off, then made it worse when he didn't answer his cell phone 5 minutes after he left. I know it was on, because he called me about an hour prior to confirm I would be there...

Ceva was nothing but terrible, but amazon made it right and immediately sent me a new set, no questions. Here is my original thread

No remedy for banding or dse unfortunately .... find some settings that diminish the banding if possible ... maybe lowering the brightness and or backlight and a combination of that and something else may make the banding bearable.

I guess only certain sizes have banding cause I haven't heard any 70" model series having this issue .... I think all have some form of DSE though.

Wish there was a fix but the only fix would have been to exchange it ... but since that's not an option it's just something you now have to live with.

My YouTube app keeps closing! I just purchased the M501d-a2r, have system version V1.06.10.1310 and YouTube app version 1.0.2.3.

ISSUE: YouTube crashes once I select the video I want to play. After I click on the video, it switches to the loading screen and then just returns to my regular cable tv program. I've noticed one or two people posting having the same issue. Could it be an update that causes it to crash now? I purchased the Tv a few hours ago so I haven't been able to make the YouTube app work at all.

Not sure if its a defective tv and I need to take it back right away to the retailer for another one or wait to see if Vizio/Yahoo/YouTube update the app for it not to crash anymore. All other apps work fine. It's just the YouTube app. Wish it worked, love everything else about this tv (with the exception of the laggy remote), and would hate to return it...but YouTube is one of my frequent services I use...

Mrhodes4-

Dude, seriously use punctuation marks. I stopped reading through your post just because of that. We can't help you, if we can't understand your problem. The "..." could've been used properly. Just a heads up.

I'm having the same problem, though it's only started recently. I tried several times yesterday, and most every video I selected crashed the app, but not all of the them (only the ones I really wanted to see, of course). At least it app isn't crashing the whole TV anymore.

This is almost certainly a Google/Youtube issue. I think we're probably going to have to wait for Google to update the app.

I have been dealing with nothing but headaches and hoping you guys can help me figure it out. I have the M501, hooked it up and everything worked great for about 4 weeks. All of the sudden one day I get an H1001-HDCP not supported on this display code on the screen, I have Uverse. After getting nowhere with Vizio or ATT, I finally get a tech out to the house and the only way he could get the uverse working again was to use component instead of hdmi. Now my dvd player quit working as well with the hdmi cable. Seems like anything using an hdmi cable just quit working with the tv. Hooked everything up to my old hitachi and it works fine with hdmi. Im also having the same issue as the guys with the youtube app crashing now.

Seeing how this a widespread issue with the youtube app I wonder if these guys test the tv first before issuing the updates to the public...I just wish I could block updates to this tv...seems like every new update has problems

There's no way to delete the apps and reinstall them either which is really bad...unless somebody knows of a way? Evil V1.06.10.1310 and YouTube app version 1.0.2.3 combination.

I have spoken with Vizio support and they recognize that the new firmware update does not play well with the youtube application but the engineers are not doing anything about it yet. They will possibly look into it tomorrow. Either they will issue a new firmware update or have an updated youtube app. I am finding out if I can block future firmware updates but the answer is no. I suggested that they implement at least a notification window for us when they push a new firmware whether to update it now or not and a list of what has changed. Let's see if they actually do that...but for now we just have to wait

I've had the M501 for almost a month now and I still have version v1.06.6.1136 and I see some of you are up to the 1.06.10.1310. Is there a way for me to update this on my tv? And what are the differences with the new one?
Ok. Returned my 55" with banding down the middle, and moved up to the fabled 60". Looking forward to putting this puppy through its paces in the next few weeks!
