In calibrated dark mose I had to turn the backlight down to about 18 to get it to stop showing on a black screen.

I thought I was done with picture settings starting with calibrated dark mode, but this got my attention. I’ll try game mode with my current settings and Ursa’s RGB numbers and re-adjust brightness and contrast if necessary with DVE HD Basics. Can anyone give a short summary of the differences between game mode and the other modes? I recall people saying there was a difference in how smooth motion behaved, are there other differences? One of these days I’d like to learn something about the algorithms, here’s an article on motion estimation:

Can anyone point me towards some reviews for this series? I am looking to replace my Samsung Samsung LN46A650 I have had now since 2008 and love to see how it compares. Any input is welcomed as well.

RealDeal...Wish I could help you but I only have a M401D and a M601D. The 50 has different color balance settings so I'm not in a position to help.

REALLY glad now that I went with Vizio instead of LG...

LG's Smart TV watches you: spyware ads report your behavior in creepy detail

Absolutely despicable. As is LG's response:
Quote:
The advice we have been given is that unfortunately as you accepted the Terms and Conditions on your TV, your concerns would be best directed to the retailer. We understand you feel you should have been made aware of these T's and C's at the point of sale, and for obvious reasons LG are unable to pass comment on their actions.

Wow. Who actually reads the Terms and Conditions of a TELEVISION? And why should you have to relinquish your right to privacy to have ads shoved in your face? If Vizio ever pulled something like this I would return the TV and use the money to find a lawyer. (just checked Vizio's T & C and it looks fine.)

Please alert your LG loving friends...

I know of several healthcare organizations that use LG televisions to display radiology images using flash drives.  The file headers often contain patient identifiable information.  It is a HIPPA violation for LG's software to upload such information un-encrypted, or even encrypted without a secure transmission & storage agreement. In both cases there would need to be a medical, financial, reporting or such similar reason for LG to access such data.  LG is going to get their ass sued off for this. File headers are not metadata for ad analytics, they are PRIVATE.   I am in disbelief that the FCC allows this.

How good are the deals going to be on Black Friday? There are some good deals out now- worth it to wait?

Hmmmm, never noticed that option on my LG set. It would've been nice if the article listed the affected models. Then again maybe its just a UK thing. With the advent of Smart everything now I would just use the tv as a display device and not even connect it to the internet.

Can anyone confirm the Costco $300 off 60" M series? I have the Costco app and I also looked online and it looks like they may have removed the sale. It was in scanned coupon books running from 11/21 through 12/15

Never mind. It has been added to the Costco app. I bought the 60" M series last week and am going to go get a price adjustment....($100 bucks) smile.gif

I just did this too; bought my 60" from Amazon last week smile.gif

A note: if you're price matching from Amazon, make sure to call them. Their e-mail CSRs are more picky about the requirements, and technically the Vizio tv at Costco is not the same model as on Amazon (4 fewer pairs of 3d glasses). I have had nothing but exceptional service from Amazon's telephone CSRs though.

Amazon's customer service number is: 1 (888) 280-3321

Has anyone tried using one of the qwerty remotes from Vizio with the M series tvs? The XRV1TV 3D and the XRT302 are available from Amazon for a low price and a qwerty remote would make the smart TV functions much easier.

My M3D550KD remote kinda worked all but the QWERTY part lol.

Is the M-Series that much better than the E-Series? I can get a 42 inch E-series for the same price as a 40 inch M-Series.

anyone know if the m series is on sale online at walmart's black friday bash?

Thanks, that answers my question. You would think they would have made the remote for this TV qwerty. Go figure.

Yeah, I'd prefer a QWERTY remote over a remote with the backlighting.

Well today was the day.  I went to Costco and left with the Vizio M601d.  I have also applied the settings for calibration.

Thank you all for the huge amount of good information that has been layered on this thread.

I love the set.  There is some light blooming that is seen when there is no picture signal being sent.  But not enough to worry about.

I did have one issue, The remote died.

Now it was not due to a crappy  remote but rather me.  I selected an app that was grayed out, and a little white wheel began to spin.

Shortly after that the remote died.  I must give great credit to the support line for Costco. They worked with me, then actually contacted Vizio support for me

The three of us were on the line as the Vizio tech explained that the remotes must be paired to the tv, EVEN for the IR to work.

So here is a TIP if your remote fails,

1) check the batteries

2) using a digital camera ( I used my cell phone) look at the business end (top) of the remote with the camera

3) press a remote button and see if you can see a light (probably blueish) blinking. As you press a remote button. This lets you know if the remote is alive.

4) Turn on the TV, There is a button on the back for this.

5) point the remote at the TV sensor while the remote is about a foot away from the TV and directly infront of the lower left corner where the sensor is.

6) Press the "Enter" button (bottom left on the remote) and continue to hold it down.

7)While still holding "Enter" Press the "Fast Forward" ">>" button ( near top right on remote)

8) Hold these two buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds while still pointing at the TV sensor, Then

9) Release both buttons and then press the "Power" button on the TV.  The Tv should power off.  Pairing Complete.

Question.......Every so often my TV is going off for a few seconds then comes back on?? It did this with the last vizio 80 inch set I just exchanged too.
Im def. loosing power to the set for when it comes back on im getting the info window with the internet connection etc. on top.
Any idea as to what can be causing this?? Im hooked up HDMI and its happening with the set top box, the blu ray player AND the PS3....
All components going through an Onkyo RX. Oh and the Onkyo doesn't loose power when the TV does. Thanks.

Everything loses power except the Onkyo? How is everything plugged in? Sounds like a problem with the Onkyo although I dont know how it could be cutting power to everything that is hooked up to it and still maintain its own power. Maybe you have a bad surge protector.

Here are my 2 big questions that I've asked and will continue to until I get a solid answer lol.

This is in reference to the 50 inch model.

1) Does it lag when playing games NOT in Game Modes?

2) Have there been any issues with this model?

Thanks for the help guys.

One asked about the lag and to be 100% honest, I hadn't even considered lag until the question was asked of me. Which means as far as I'm concerned there is 0 detectable lag. I've played Killzone (single and Multi), AC4. Madden 25 (single and multi), Resogun, Warframe and Contrast and each of them is silky smooth.
What settings are these with? Is game mode on or off?

Someone else pointed it out but I confirmed it last night for my set. As long as the vizio remote is the only one that turns the set off it works every time, I turned the tv off with my harmony and just like that the vizio remote did not work anymore.

Are you sure it's losing power? That info window will come up after signal is lost for a moment when switching inputs or resolutions on some devices. The Vizio seems to be more sensitive to a signal drop for a brief period compared to my previous LG. Does the 80" have a power indicator light you can enable?

If it is doing it while just watching something when nothing is changing, it might be a compatibility issue with your Onkyo.
