they are same wattage..

I primarily watch music concert blurays and NOT movies

If the Samsung and the Yamaha have the same drivers, crossovers, power output, cabinet dimensions and simulated 5.1 processing, probably yes; otherwise, probably not.

the samsung e450 is a 2.1 no simulated surround, but same wattage?

So, probably not...unless you can think of a reason why two different products with no similarities other than wattage, and produced several years apart by two different companies, might sound alike.

has the technology and efficiency changed in the 5 year period so the Samsung will deliver decent sound as the Yamaha did?
