"New" Harmony remote

I hope this isn't too off topic but I just received a new Harmony 1100 remote from Amazon.com.
"Sold by Pavilion Electronics, fulfilled by Amazon"
When I had an question on setup I clicked on the help button and was told my free phone help period had expired.
After 20 minutes?
I called Logitech and was told I had a used remote. I then looked inside under the battery and found the serial number had been blacked out.
Since it was "fulfilled by Amazon" they will not send a replacement. They will have some "Sold and shipped by Amazon" in a couple of weeks but
I was hoping to beat the AZ sales tax Amazon will start charging in Feb.
BTW Pavilion said "sorry, return it to Amazon."
Lesson:
Stay away from "Sold by xxx , Fulfilled by Amazon."
Stay away from Pavilion Electronics.

You can buy a refurb from Logitec that has warranty of new

I think Dave's point is that he bought a new remote which turned out to be used, hence the warning to avoid that seller.

All the refurbs I've gotten from Logitech and elsewhere only have a 90 day warranty, whereas new remotes have a 1 year warranty. But most are as good as new.

I have no problem with refurb'ed items.
However in the case of the used sold as new remote, the free phone support period had expired.
That along with the fact the serial number had been erased screams fraud.
I have read of other similar experiences with Amazon sellers.

Call Amazon and arrange to return it. I did that recently with an item I bought that was not what it was represented to be. Amazon refunded my purchase price and even gave me a credit for the shipping cost to return it.

Yes, file a return using the link under your account settings order status. They offer the A-Z guarantee so you will be covered as long as you are within 30 days of purchase.

Always use caution when buying from a third party seller on Amazon. Buying "on" Amazon is on the same as buying "from" Amazon. The "fulfilled by Amazon" just means the third party seller has shipped their items to Amazon's warehouse for Amazon to handle the shipping.
