I listen to country music too, I swear I can't recall one song I've ever heard from him.

He's not my favorite country singer, but he's had a string of #1 hits:

Keith Urban is found in the "Country" bin, but has his roots spread wide in other categories as well. He is one of the best frontman guitarists playing today, and most of his hits he wrote. Singer, songwriter, guitarist puts him in a place well situated to judge in silly music contests. Early this year some other judge was talking about itinerate musicians and should have looked beside themself because Urban, who quit school to tour the world, is just that...and it shows if you listen.

The song below is one of my faves of his and does not feature his ability to shred an electric guitar, which he can and does often, but it shows his ability to turn a lyric quite well and deliver it too.

I hope the stutterer wins it all....it'll be a fitting tribute to how low this show has fallen.

OMG!!! Has AVS become the place to come to crap on people's disabilities? mad.gif
post #126 of 432
Not crapping on disabilities....his singing sucks and the only reason the judges have carried him along is because of his "touching story"....so the only reason he's gotten this far is the judges feeling sorry for his disability. Mel Tillis was a stutterer - but he could also sing pretty well based on the number of records he sold over many years.
Several seasons ago they pushed a blind guy forward, even though it was obvious that he wasn't top 20 material.
What is really unfortunate with this show (and virtually all reality based shows, for that matter) is that in an effort to convey compelling backstories, the producers have actually become very exploitive of some of the individuals. It can be a fine line between showing how a person has overcome adversity or just being downright exploitive of their difficulties. I think they are crossing the line more than not in the past few years.
I am sick of the backstories, its a singing competition, i just want to watch them sing. Less other crap and they could sing longer than they do since already they are singing very short versions of songs.

I don't know what show you've been watching, it stopped being a singing show and became a popularity contest seasons ago.

I'm putting my money on that really awkward kid. There's a point in this show where the judges stop making a difference in the choices. Time for the 13yr old girls to vote or not vote off the horrible crap choices the judges forced on those of you who vote.

I might change my mind when I see how the first group sings and who gets out voted. I really wish they would show how many votes a person got.

I love that they traveled all around the country looking for the best talent in all of America and came up with a dorky kid that can do a comically bad rendition of Rocket Man. The judges should be humiliated.

Just saw tonight's show. Kree is still the standout for me. I don't even like country, at all. Candice and then Amber are right behind.

Dump the rest and have an actual competition.

Watching the wrap up at the end, I forgot Angela, she's #4. She can stay.

I liked the idea of voting with the AI app, but it insisted that I sign in with a Facebook account I do not have, so no vote from me.

Had I voted it would have been Kree Harrison and Angie Miller even up. The rest are too far behind to matter.

Kree and Candice both put me to sleep.

I have Angela as #1, then Amber. I was disappointed by Aubrey. However, I hope she sticks around. She's the best looking contestant by far.

My top five is Angela, Amber, Aubrey, Kree and Candice. I still gave half my Facebook votes to Zoanette just because I'm a fan of VFTW. Amber won't make it. That fake blond fitness instructor from TN. will take her place.

I hate you.

If we're going on which one I want to bang the most, that list is a little different cool.gif

But in terms of singing ability, I think everyone knows which is which.

Edit: Since you brought up VFTW I paid a visit. I just saw for the first time zoanette's audition. Amazing.

Forget the competition: The winner so far sits on the judges' panel, and her name is Nicki.

And then she speaks, and she's riveting. Minaj blends Paula Abdul's mothering, Stephen Tyler's sometimes inappropriate quirkiness and — at her best — Simon Cowell's directness into a judging style that is all her own and almost always unexpected. One minute she's commenting on a singer's breasts or calling another one her "wife"; the next, she's being as precise, insightful and constructive as any Idol judge has ever been.

I couldn't tell you one single song that Nicki Minaj sings, but I have grown to really like her quirky style of judging.

Take a trip to YouTube, but (Warning) have a puke-bucket handy.

No thanks. I don't know what songs she sings, but I know what STYLE she sings and I'm not interested.

Kree and Angie are the standouts. Idol deserves all the hate they get for putting garbage like Zonette and the kid that stutters through. Neither are good singers. But as others have pointed out, it's not been a singing competition in a long long time. Kree and Angie sure can sing though. What they're doing on this turd of a show, I'll never know.
Agree about Kree, I hate country music, but still listened to her twice. Just awesome.

What she does is semi-rhyming to a beat, not singing by any stretch. It has all the lyrical qualities of beating a pail with a spoon.

I am so underwhelmed by the guys this year that the only thing that stood out for me tonight was, was that a yellow dry cleaning tag on Vincent's sleeve tonight?

That happened about 10 years ago. Teeny girls are the key voters so the chances of a female winner are slim!!

No, it's middle aged women that determine the winner.

I'd say the spanish kid and Burnell are my favorites. Burnell got robbed though, he should have done the Boyz II Men song. He even looks like one of em. Plus he's doing the whole 90's look too.

Almost everyone one of them bored me.

Hmm I guess there's something wrong with me. I can't stand her 99% of the time. Can people actually listen to her with her stupid fake british accent and not get severely annoyed? She seems to enjoy herself, I wasn't sure if anyone else was though.
I thought the girls were almost universally better in their first live performances than Tuesday. I thought Angie Miller was better with Amber Holcomb (Bad song choice) and Candice Glover who picked the right song being about the same. It seemed Candice's mic had problems halfway through her song.

From the guys I thought Burnell Taylor had the best song of the night. Lazaro Arbos may have strayed more toward a cruise ship direction but I have to admit I enjoyed it. Elijah Liu was much better than his first live showing. I didn't think he deserved to go on after his performance, but he really stepped his game up.

No, I hate everything about her. I hate the fact that she exists and gets money from people. I hate that she has a spot on this show. I hate her stupid voices. I hate her plastic doll looks. I swear she must have ass implants, I don't know if that's a thing, but if it is, she has them.
